Zulu leader warns 2010 could flop in South Africa

South Africa's failure to combat crime and international perceptions that the country is unsafe, could render the 2010 Soccer World Cup a "monumental flop", veteran Zulu leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has said.

The former cabinet minister said this international perception could deter some of the 450,000 visitors expected to visit the country - the first African country to host the massive international event.

"If prospective international visitors judge our country not safe enough to travel to, the event could turn out to be a monumental flop, and any economic gains hoped for will vanish into thin air," Buthelezi said in his weekly newsletter.

Buthelezi, I almost forgot about him. A great contributor to the effectiveness of Apartheid in South Africa. He would shoot down his fellow black South Africans for the luxury of being seen as a good negro by white south africa. Mandela should have cut out his tongue among other things when he became president.

Now he is a great social commentator. He maybe speaking the truth about South Africa's ability to host the world cupbut I would watch him to make sure that he doesn't try any tricks to make the current ANC influenced government look bad since he is so 'concerned' about the event.

Mangosuthu Buthelezi should not even be quoted on this website. During the apartheid years he was on the payroll of the racist Afrikaaners, and secretly tried to undermine the struggle for freedom championed by the ANC. He will forever be relegated to the back pages of history!
