    NPL 2010/2011 Round #12 Wrap-Up

Tivoli Gardens whip Benfica 5-0 on their way to the top of the DPL

Tivoli Gardens continued the goal scoring spree romping to an impressive 5-0 win over Benfica FC and claimed top spot of the Digicel Premier League (DPL) after Waterhouse lost 0-1 to Sporting Central Academy.

Tivoli which started the day in second spot on 23 points, leapfrogged Waterhouse into first on 26 points after with their eighth win of the season.

Devon Hodges scored twice in the 1st and 44th minute for his fourth and fifth goals of the season to be second behind Vincent Earle of Waterhouse on six.

Former Arnett Gardens player Kwame Richardson, who netted in Tivoli’s End-of-Round finals win, scored again in the 21st minute.

Midfielder Jameel Thompson scored a beautiful left-footed volley from just inside the box in the 38th minute before Reggae Boy Keammar Daley completed the rout in the 70th minute for his third of the season.

St Ann-based Benfica slumped to their fifth defeat and dropped a place to sixth with 17 points.

At Drewsland, home team Waterhouse were stopped in their tracks by a 90+ minute goal from former National Under-20 player LeVaughn “Country” Williams of Sporting Central Academy.

Waterhouse, still smarting from their 1-5 loss to Tivoli Gardens in the End-of-Round final and the uncertainty surrounding head coach Baris Johnson, suffered their third lost of the season and slipped to second on 25 points.

Clarendon-based Sporting Central stopped their two-match losing streak and climbed one spot to seventh on 17 points.

Meanwhile struggling St George’s FC ended a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Boys’ Town at Lynch Park.

The Portland-based outfit also provided new coach Geoffrey Maxwell with a winning return but remained at the bottom of the DPL with eight points, three behind the 11th placed team.

Horace James netted in the 62nd minute as St Georges recorded only their second win from 12 games including eight losses.

It was a cruel blow for title-chasing Boys’ Town as they slipped from third to fourth on 20 points with their third defeat of the season.

Steven Morrissey grabbed a brace enabling Portmore United to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Reno FC and into third spot on 20 points.

National Under-20 striker Craig Foster gave Reno a 30th minute lead with his third goal of the season.
But Steven Morrissey responded swiftly with two goals in 15 minutes netting in the 36th and 51st minutes and joined Vincent Earle at the top of the goal scoring chart with six goals.

Westmoreland-based Reno which was suffering their third consecutive game and sixth overall, slipped to eighth on 14 points.

Despite drawing 1-1 with Humble Lion, champion Harbour View gained a spot to fifth on 17 points and are nine points off the lead.

Former Harbour View striker Denzil Watson gave Humble Lion a 32nd minute lead with a curling shot from just inside the box.

But Harbour View struck back from a corner kick as defender Christopher Harvey headed home in the 43rd minute for a share of the spoils.

Humble Lion from Central Clarendon drew their fifth match and remained in the relegation zone in 11th spot on 11 points.

At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, home team Arnett Gardens gave new coach Paul “Tegat” Davis his first taste of success with a 1-0 win over his former club Village United.

Incidentally, a former Village United player Fabian Dawkins netted the winning goal in the 90th minute as Arnett gained a spot to ninth with 14 points.

Village of Trelawny, slumped to their fifth defeat of the season and dropped to 10th on 12 points.

Mosiah, you think Vincent Earle deserves a call to the National team?

Just for his exploits thus far...yes! But I have never been quite impressed with his game. Seems to disappear for longer stretches than Tappa used to!

You should be okay with that because Hue dissappeared for longer stretches also.. sorry mi forget you did rename it defense bypassing midfield when it related to Hue. You going to campaign for him in a similar manner to the Decoy/Christopher Harvey campaigning or yu nuh fraid him go back to him disappearing ways?

Anyhow on a serious note, outside of your Maestro, who you think should be running the midfield for the National team. Coach Maxwell say him nuh see anybody capable of doing it, wha yu seh?

I agree with Maxwell. This one wi have to look outside of Jamaica because when Maestro is still head and shoulders above everyone else, disappearance or not, it bad!

Maxwell is now back at the helm of St.Georges United. They won yesterday 1-0.

What is the problem with Brax Hyre. He also did well his first year at Constant Spring and his second year was not good at all. Hope Maxwell and the St.Georges managent can course correct ASAP.
