  • Remembering Our Esteemed Courtney

To the leadership of the club, I am writing to you, respectfully, to enquire as to whether there was a committment made to honor Courtney's memory here, and if there was, to enquire as to the schedule for the satisfaction of such committment.

I do not wish to create or add to any uncomfortable feeling. However, I have read many of the postings on the topic and they have left me quite disheartened. I am not a close personal friend of Balla's, nor did he contact me to seek my assistance in making this post. However, I believe we should honor any committment that was made, even if it was made on the fly, even if it was made in an emotional state or setting, and even if it was made without full consultation of the leadership of the club.

I never had the same privilege Balla had to know Courney closely. But I know the following. Courtney was a strong, central figure on this web site. He was passionate and committedd to Jamaican football. He was also passionate about all things Jamaican, and about much more. Whether there was mutual agreement between him and anyone here, he always afforded them respect. He showed his personal respect and affability when meeting forumites at locales here or in Ja. He went out of his way to welcome forumites to Jamaica whenever he was aware of their visits. He was a proud host to virtual strangers whenever they showed any interest in coming to Jamaica to attend an Arnett Gardens FC match.

On the forum, Courtney was an excellent debater, proud defender of the KOP and Arnett, professed eternal lover of Ja. He did venture elsewhere with his thoughts, as he did with Condoleeza and others. The depth and breadth of his postings here might be equalled but never outmatched.

Please let us find an appropriate way to honor him and set a timeframe within which the honor will be unveiled. Also, let us keep the discussion about related matters on a very high level.

    Peace be to you all.

    RE: Remembering Our Esteemed Courtney

Westman, please bear in mind that the site although seems on the front as if it has a large support team on the back end, it does not. All that goes on here is due to the efforts of a few who arealso working folks with busy lives. That said, I do not think you or Balla can be putting any timetable on when things get done on the site. Whatever is to be done, will be done and done so when the folks behind the running of the site can get it done. Mosiah or Scaly can agree that certain things should be done, but then again, they are not the ones getting it sdone.

It does not matter how much posting Balla does or if you decide to follow in in his campaign, we have a list of things to be done on here and they will be done when we can get to them. With all due respects to Courtney, there is no effort on behalf of the web team to disrespect the man's memory. We just have to keep things in perspective and as the youths of today would say, "keep it real".

      My esteemed brother Tilla:

Please do not be defensive with me on this issue. I was not trying to put you on the defensive. I understand your extraordinary dedication to this forum, even when you have very important home and work issues to attend to. I was only suggesting that an outside date be suggested as a possibility of when this most noble effort might be completed. If I, in any way, offended or pressed you too much, please accept my humble apology. My intervention was only because I noticed an unfriendly tenor in some of the web discussions. I found that tenor to venture into "unseemly" territory, from time to time.

As always, I have nothing but respect for those whose hard work and unselfish dedication make this wonderful website possible and continual.

      Have a blessed weekend!

      Westman.

Cho man! I do not think Tilla is offended...and, I can state that I am not offended. Tilla spoke truth - the hands are few and the tasks many. We all valued Courtney's contributions.

...btw - Courtney and I hadmany a heated argument over the years - on the football, direction the club should take at particular times, priorities on tasks to be done, but we have never had any 'personal problems'. In fact, we have always whenever wemet excellent rapport.

I can remember the last two occasions we met - inNew Kingston infront of and across from that bookstore on Knutsford Boulevard where westood'shooting the breeze' for a long time andat a football match atHarbour View were we shared football talk, meaningless pleasantries and'peanuts' served by 'Bunny'.

Form the first occasion when I spoke with Courtney (and we sometimes spoke on the 'phone for hours...I can remember one night we spoke from approximately 10.00pm eastern to 2.00-3.00am)through to when I first met himin Boston, Massachusetts (Foxboro) and on to when last we spoke he has been never anything less than a gentleman.

I have never known Courtney to be anything other than a nice guy.I am just sorry I never 'checked' on him the very last time I was in JA before his death. I had informed him I was comingand we had agreed to link...but, other duties prevent me for making that link.

His being retained as a moderator has all to do with the esteem in which we hold him.

Whatever was promised will be done!

          Hail "Uncle Karl!"

I revere Tilla so much that I will always make sure I never wear on his patience. I, too, have many Courtney stories. But I had hoped to have many more. It just so happened that God's plans to develop more Courtney stories in eternity superseded our hopes.

Anyway, I am going back to the Labourites' work right now. (Courtney would have some humorous response to that.)
