SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Two goals down after 14 minutes, defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) turned in a powerful second half to earn a 2-2 draw with St James High in their ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup quarter-final clash at STETHS yesterday.
Francois Clarke in the third minute and Alwayne Barrett with a long-range blast in the 14th gave St James the early advantage before a big crowd in pleasant conditions.

But STETHS, the Ben Francis KO champions, stormed back with goals from Romario Thompson in the 66th and second-half substitute Kevon Farquharson in the 79th.
The result brought back memories of the Ben Francis semi-final when STETHS came from behind twice to tie with the same opponents and eventually won on penalty kicks.
The opening St James goal followed slick combination play down the left by Ricardo Morris and Jason Malcom, which ended with the latter's powerful cross being tapped in by Clarke at the far post.
Eleven minutes later, Barrett from 30 metres out picked up a loose ball from a bad defensive blunder and slammed a right-foot shot which found the net past the flailing right hand of STETHS goalkeeper Gregory McKogg to give St James a 2-0 lead.
STETHS pressed hard for most of the rest of the first half and could have had at least two goals with more efficient shooting as St James seemed content to hit on the counter. St James goalkeeper Everett Nunes was never required to make an actual save in the first half despite the STETHS pressure.
Strengthened by the introduction of substitutes Koyce Bromfield, who brought composure and compactness to midfield, and the hard-running national under-20 representative Farquharson up front, STETHS took control of the second half.
Relentless pressure brought their first goal. Sustained and skillful combination play between Denmark Gillings and Akeem Jones earned reward when Gillings turned away from goal to find Thompson at the edge of the box. The latter's right-foot shot left goalkeeper Nunes with no chance.
Thirteen minutes later, the powerful Farquharson picked up a short corner on the right and from an acute angle shot through the hands of Nunes.
Farquharson could have found the winner in the dying minutes, when another right foot shot from an even more acute angle was pushed on to the bar by the St james goalkeeper.
At the end, STETHS coach Andrew Edwards paid tribute to his team for keeping "their composure" after going two goals down. "We played like champions," he said. Edwards commended substitutes Bromfield and Farquharson fo making a "big diference" in the game.
