  • Mourinho using Wingers as always to win

Angel De Maria and Ronaldo creating chances for Madrid like crazy and they are doing a lot of defensive work too. First in years Real madrid have any defensive shape. Khedeira and Xabi Alonso (God knows why Rafa wanted to sell him and get Gareth Barry) have been doing a good job. I think the are going to need Diarra to replace one of them against the quicker midfields.

Quick players on the flank along with the solid defense have always been the key to Mourinho's teams winning.

Alenichev and Carlos Alberto at Porto
    Duff and Robben at Chelsea
    Pandev and Eto at Inter
Now De Maria and Ronaldo at Madrid.

The Barry situation was possibly one factor in Alonso leaving but by no means the only or the most important.

The Barry factor was all about money , he wanted to sell Alonso for a hefty price and buy Barry at a decent price and another player , well CITY swooped in and the price went threw the roof , Alonso left , we got the money and bought Aquailani leaving 10 million in the bank for H&G to spend on the debt.Maxi, Skertel and Nygog were also purchased .

Good piece of business.Bad piece of movement to disrupt the chemistry.

Aquilani's style of play is MUCH more suited to Serie A. It was a bad buy by Rafa, especially since he was injured. He wouldn't have struggled with the physical side of the EPL just like the Rafa's other bad Serie A purchase (Dossena).

X, I don't agree that money was the factor. In the summer transfer window of 2008 (when Barry was being contemplated) Alonso's market value was arguably about the same as Barry's. That season, Rafa was unable to do the deal, and Barry stayed with Villa for 2008/2009, before transferring to City for 2009/2010; the same season that Alonso left for Madrid.

By then, it was Alonso - NOT RAFA - that wanted to end the relationship. Xabi was in a particularly strong position because a) Madrid wanted him badly and for a good fee and b) he had a fantastic season engineering a strong challenge for the title that left us in 2nd place. In fact, Rafa was desperately trying to KEEP Alonso, not sell him as he had few other options (remember that by then Barry had already tipped his hand to City).

Rafa's big miscalculation was the damage he did to the player's trust in trying to sell him in 08/09. There was no going back once that was lost. Secondly, we cannot rule out the player's own ambitions. A starting Spanish midfielder for Real Madrid arguably has a better chance of making Spain's world cup squad (as a starter) than a starting Spanish midfielder for Liverpool (or anyone else).

Anyway, if Rafa has a fatal flaw, to me, it is that he does not seem to endear himself to his players like Jose, Ancellotti or Hiddink seem to. Had Alonso's relationship with Rafa not broken down, he may well have still been at Anfield today, no matter how much money he's worth. Still, there is no question that Rafa made him the value that he became, no question about that.

You forgot to mention Rafa's other protoge Momo Sissoko's "brilliant" setup of the second goal. He is a much better player at Juve than he was at Liverpool.

Disagree , value does not start on the tranfer day but the whispers before it .Rafa underestimated his value by trying to off load him cheaply or was he trying to gauge his value ? and when the whispers got out for how cheap , Real stepped in , other suitors did too, but his heart was with Real.

Rafa did the right thing , its like Hodgson saying he wants to sell the greek for 2 million when Rafa bought him for 1.5 , the bidding war might take it to 6 or 7 million.

Aquallani and the team would have found Rafa's Team chemistry and if H&G had the money to buy another 20 million pound striker the season would have been ours.

I really cant see how you can say that when H&G tells you after purchasing Torres you have to sell if you want to buy , whom is he going to sell ?

Well some ediaaat inna the Dynasty listen to dem and this is where it got us , a painfull lesson learned.

The thing about Alonso what some here conviently leave out (Paul) is that Alonso wanted to go to Real from his days at Real Sociedad and Real ignored him , he went with Rafa to pool and built his rep(value) , after one season of a disagreement with Rafa (the typical transfer rumours ) he hands it in to Liverpool ! now you tell me where is his heart to fight for his team , his place ,his liverpool ?

He is no angel and Rafa is as cold as Fergie (beckham etc )(Mourinho Shev , Mutu et (Wenger , Addie and T14 etc.

                            Its bizniz !
