<P class=StoryText align=justify>THE board of the Clarendon Football Association (CFA) has ratified a recommendation that makes businessman Captain Horace Burrell officially a member of the CFA's executive.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The decision was made on Tuesday at a special meeting of the association, and general secretary Dave Meikle said the vote was unanimous. Meikle added that the national body, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), was notified of the ratification.<P class=StoryText align=justify>JFF general secretary Burchell Gibson, when reached yesterday, confirmed that the CFA's faxed notification was received.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Burrell, a former president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and widely credited for taking Jamaica to the World Cup Finals in France in 1998, will now be eligible to run for his old post when the JFF polls are due in November this year.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The CFA decided to make Burrell a member when words circulated that the local governing body was planning to amend its constitution so that only those individuals who are members of a parish association would be eligible to run for office in the JFF elections.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Burrell, who has officially announced his candidacy for the post of president currently held by Crenston Boxhill, was not a member of any parish association board before the CFA appointment.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The CFA, led by Michael Ricketts; the Westmoreland FA presided over by Everton Tomlinson, and Manchester FA, under the guidance of Dale Spencer, have been the most vocal parish associations who have endorsed Burrell as their candidate for the JFF presidency.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Burrell, a CONCACAF Executive Member and senior vice-president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), is also favoured by many other parish associations to lead the JFF once again.<P class=StoryText align=justify>At least eight of these associations receive direct sponsorship dollars for their respective leagues by the Burrell-owned Captain's Bakery chain of stores.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Yesterday, the CFA's Meikle said they were happy to have Burrell as part of their team.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"We are looking to pull on his wealth of knowledge and experience and we hope this will help us to raise the level of our football administration," he said.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Neither Burrell nor CFA president Ricketts could be reached for comment at press time.
