ALAN Irvine is pondering whether to play Sheffield Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson from the start at home to Bournemouth after his goalscoring comeback at Yeovil.
The Jamaican international came off the bench for his first match of the season and opened the scoring with a superb individual effort at Huish Park to put the Owls on the path to a 2-0 success.
Johnson was the catalyst for Wednesday's third away win in League One, which lifted the club up to fourth in the table, five points behind leaders Brighton.
Despite a lively cameo performance off the bench at Yeovil, Johnson accepts he is short of full match fitness.
It is something Owls boss Irvine is acutely aware of and he acknowledges that the 30-year-old tired towards the end of the contest. He says he will keep monitoring Johnson's fitness this week before selecting his squad to face Bournemouth at the weekend.
"Anybody at the game would have seen that at the end of that half an hour, JJ didn't have a lot of energy left," said Irvine. "He managed to get through that time and he will train again this week and hopefully that will make him that bit fitter and stronger for the Bournemouth game.
"We have to judge whether he will be ready for 90 minutes, an hour or 45 minutes."
Irvine is warning his side to guard against complacency following their recent revival: saying: "We know that it is not easy to win games in this division.
"If we are not ready mentally or up for the games like our opponents then we will be caught out."
