In a big surprise, Ecuador beat Mexico 2-1.
In the first minute, Cristian Benitez got loose in the box and scored the first goal for Ecuador.
Mexico got a lucky goal to tie the match in the 40th minute. Officially, Ecuador's Luis Checa was charged with an own goal. Checa was guarding a Mexican with the ball on the right side of the box, near the goal line.
The Mexican player tried to cross the ball across the goal mouth, Ecuador's goalie played for the cross, but the cross nicked Checa and deflected into the short side of the net.
Jamie Ayovi headed in a free kick for Ecuador's game winner in the 58th minute.
The start of the Honduras vs. El Salvador match appears to have been delayed by rain or some other reason.
