UEFA bans vuvuzelas from European competition

Vuvuzelas have been kicked out of European competitions after UEFA said that the controversial plastic trumpets drowned out supporters and detracted from the emotion of the game.

The plastic horns became a hallmark of the World Cup in South Africa, producing a monotonous droning sound, often likened to a swarm of bees, which provided a backdrop for every match.

But they will not be allowed in stadiums in UEFA competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League and Euro 2012 qualifiers after UEFA’s ruling on Wednesday.

    Premier League clubs ban vuvuzelas

Fans hoping to bring the distinctive drone of the vuvuzela back to England from the World Cup face disappointment after several Premier League clubs banned the trumpets from their stadiums.

Although the Premier League has not made any ruling on the vuvuzela covering its 20 teams, Tottenham banned the South African instrument late Monday.

Arsenal, Birmingham, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, West Ham and Sunderland followed Tuesday, with most citing concern that the distinctive blaring of the vuvuzelas could prevent spectators at matches from hearing safety announcements such as evacuation instructions.

Well, here's the key part from the piece:
"MLS, for now, is leaving the decision up to its clubs. With the growing supporters culture in MLS and the obvious desire to replicate the sounds and colors of stadiums in Europe and South America, don't be surprised if those well-organized groups pressure franchises to bar the horns from their stadiums."

Are they really that expensive now?

Vuvuzelas are an annoying device that has no musical or rhythmic value.

i quite like them. not one one though ... an entire stadium of vuvzelas adds to the atmosphere, IMHO.

how bad can it be? almost the ENTIRE stadium had vuvuzelas at the matches i attended.
