CARSON, California (AP) — Nicolas Addlery scored twice to lead the Puerto Rico Islanders to a surprise 4-1 win at the Los Angeles Galaxy in the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions' League on Tuesday.
David Foley and Josh Hansen also scored for the Islanders, which play in the second tier of professional North American football but proved far too good for a Los Angeles team that is top of the Major League Soccer standings.

The second leg will be played Aug. 4 in San Juan, with the overall winner to progress to the group stage.

English striker Foley gave Puerto Rico a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. Galaxy defender A.J. DeLaGarza blocked a goal-bound header on the line but Foley was on hand to knock it into the net.

Jamaican forward Addlery made it 2-0 in the 45th minute with a shot that Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders got a hand to but couldn't stop.

Hansen <emdash /> a former Galaxy reserves player <emdash /> scored a 29-yard drive in the 56th minute to make it 3-0, and Addlery scored his second goal in the 81st minute on a 19-yard line drive for 4-0.

Islanders defender Richard Martinez deflected Edson Buddle's shot into his own net in the 83rd minute for L.A.'s only goal.

While LA came with not their strongest team, I have to ask why is Adderly not playing at a higher level?
His runs are great and he certainly can hit the ball. Better than a lot of MLS strikers.

His play in the Gold Cup was not that good.

His MLS play was an obvious case of an unsettled individual trying too hard. He was quite bad compared to his current level. He definitely has the ability to perform at that level.

He tried too hard. He still didn't get enough time to settle and DC was giving the Brazillian pair too much credit at the time.

Exactly! When he plays for the national team it seems as if he has to have a great game or he may never see back di team in a while. He needs to be given a sustained run. The man is quality and he knows where the goal is!

You can only give so many ballers a sustained run. Cummings and Johnson have looked the part right away, Hodges (not a big fan) has scored quite a bit upon getting caps. So I am not sure how you give Addlery a sustained run.

how many chances has addlery received? if cummings scores on his debut does that mean he is better than a player who may not have scored on his first 3 appearances?

It doesn't mean he is a better player.

However, he performed better than Addlery has in his chances. Hodges has put the ball in the back of the net, but you going to tell him you drop him or Johnson because Addlery need to get a sustained run?

I would. I think Addlery is better than all of them.

All me know is who a pick Jamaica team fi the next world cup have trouble. Having Ryan Johnson, Cummings, Adderly, Obrien White, Jermaine Johnson(to a lesser extent) all playing a similar game then to add Fuller, Shelton, and few other local forward to the mix, mean problem.

Them need fi give Adderly if a even a few caribbean cup. Them can't a give the big man 10 and 15 minutes like a make up time dem a deal wid.

Addlery better learn to take his chance.

When he got the start against the big man them at Real mona him did look nervous, when him get him games in the JA youth team him look nervous, when him just reach DC United, same thing. Him better get over it.
