Spanish eyes may be smiling on Jamaica's football.
Alaves, which was demoted from Spain's top professional competition La Liga after last season, reportedly developed interest in several Jamaican players following the club's recent pre-season training tour of the <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">United </SPAN><SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">States</SPAN>.
Chief among them may be Sean Fraser, who is currently attached to Miami F.C. of the United Soccer League (USL). Fraser, Star sources revealed, impressed Alaves during a practice game between Miami F.C. and the Spanish club in South Florida earlier this month.
However, little has been made public by the parties representing Alaves and Fraser. When Star Sports contacted the player's U.S.-based agent Eddie Davidson last week, he said he did not want to comment on the issue for fear of harming any possible future talks, although he said he had received positive feedback about Fraser's performance against Alaves.
Davidson's partner Rob Feigenson said on Tuesday that he had "not heard anything from anyone about" Alaves's interest in Fraser. Feigenson said he had discussed Fraser's performance with the player and Miami F.C.'s General Manager Luis Muzzi "both of whom expressed contentment with Sean's performance."
Attempts to contact Muzzi and representatives of Alaves have been unsuccessful. Telephone calls made to Muzzi were not returned.
Miami F.C.'s press officer Gerardo Villa also agreed that Fraser "had a <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">good </SPAN><SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">game</SPAN> against Alaves and Municipal (the Guatemala champions)" but said he was not aware of any discussions between his club and the Spanish team. But a Star source claimed that Alaves, which includes the likes of Australian World Cup player John Aloisi, "could not mark" Fraser during the game.
