  • Will England's abysmal performance

have an impact on the EPL? The stats I hear are that most of the other "premier" leagues have at least 60% local players on the squad...EPL is about 30% English. Will this change?

In cricket they reduced the number of foreigners in their league and rebuilt their cricket...will the same happen in football?

well, they can't have it both ways. either they opt for less of the foreign stars and bring down the league standard, or keep it the way it is with less Brits. they are going to have to make up their minds. John Barnes had a lot to say about this yesterday.

don't we have this conversation every 4 years?!

More so this one because like the French and Italy they didn't show up. Scoring only 2 goals and looking they way the did call for change.

Capello must also bear some of the blame. The team looked almost like the one 4 years ago. It like he didn't bring anything new.

I think John Barnes made some good points. The best one is England needs specialised players. Too many players were attack-minded, and the team suffered when they didn't have the ball. and the wingbacks were too slow for the modern game.

          Which specialized players?

Nah, England needs a better management system.

Dem good in qualifiers and then flop in the tourneys. Spain had that problem for decades.

England need better players. Millner, Adam Johnson and Lennon have four years to develop in to top quality players. Make we see what happen.

Players who are defense-minded or attack-minded. Difficult to find players who do both well. This box-to-box player thing is overrated.

All the top teams have midfielders who cover a lot of ground. Most of the top teams have players who do both. Ghana, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Uruguay, Chile, Netherlands...

                      Dat too.

They call this the golden generation, but the players in 1986 and 1990 were better.

Hoggle, Wiggle, Gazza, Lineker, Barnes, Platt, Pierce, Dixon, Butcher, etc were more talented.

Gazza was "daft as a brush" but was a ball genius. Johhny B was the best winger of his generation, Lineker was a complete goal rat and Hoggle was never appreciated for his sublime passing ability. Platt was foreceful and technically excellent. I miss one and two other good players from ten too.

This generation is a cut below. Plus they miss a goal rat.

Build the lower development leagues and produce brits who force themselves into the EPL.

...so what are they going to do lower the standard in the EPL and expect the resulting lower standard players they produce to rule the world?

                          Here's England's problem:

The squad chosen was poor at best.

                          1. Heskey should never have been picked over Darren Bent.
                          2. Peter Crouch, who is yet to fail in the England colours never got a run out.
                          3. Rooney sucked.
                          4. England played Germany too narrowly. A number of times I saw Rooney with the ball looking for Ashley Cole who was absent and had to turn inside.
                          5. John Terry is overrated. He does well on crosses into the box but is very poor when the ball is played on the ground because he is too slow.
                          6. Gerrard and Lampard should not be on the filed at the same time. Lampard should be sacrificed to play Gerrard.
                          7. There is no way Capello should have taken Ledley King who has a well documented fitness problem. It leaves one to wonder if he has ALL the power in picking the squad.
                          8. Adam Johnson should have been in the squad. He proved to be young and fearless throughout the season.
                          8. Michael Dawson who had a standout season should have been played over Upson.
                          9. Michael Carrick should have been played over Barry.
                          10. The England players just do not have the technical abilities of Spain, Germany, Holland and even France much less the South Americans. I saw Jermaine Defoe (my bwoy) got a breakaway ball that his first touch turn a good ball into a 50-50 with him and the goalie. If that was Torres, Drogba, Higuain or any other top class striker, they would have turn that ball into 60-40 in their favour.
                          11. Capello needs to accept his errors and make the hard changes to the side.
Hey .. look at the bright side .... at least you're not a Liverpool fan! - Lazie 2/24/10 Paul Marin -19 is one thing, 20 is a whole other matter. It gets even worse if they win the UCL. *groan*. 05/18/2011.MU fans naah cough, but all a unuh a vomit?-Lazie 1/11/2015

As for Adam Johnson, I cannot see why Capello didn't bring him. He was the only left winger in the original squad. Capello lost it.
