  • John Barnes says time for England to look at a Structure

not at individuals. He had the same argument when he was coach of the Jamaica senior men's team. He says England must stop believeing that just because the EPL is the best in the world means that the only good players are those in the EPL. He says, look at those players for Chile and some of the other countries. They do not play in the EPL, but the are quality players.

Johnny points out that Germany's 1 and 2 touch football was too much for England, and made it very difficult for the English players to get behind the ball. He says Rooney's dribbling allowed the Germans to get back in defence. Simple rule - players cannot move as fast as the ball.

He says England needs attacking and defensive-minded players, and forget this thing about box-to-box players. These are specialised positions.

Yuh have a point there, Johnny, but I can't remember you picking Maestro for the national team.

I think Johnny makes some good points, but he ain't gonna coach any where in England for a long time.

John is one of several celebrity panelists on South African Broadcasting Commission TV.

Thomas Berthold is on today's panel and he was quite frank about it - at this level, England was definitely not good enough and it was an easy match for Germany.

Others panelist being used from time to time are Dwight York, Jay-Jay Okocha, Stephen Keshi, Samuel Kuffour, Kevin Keegan and host of other big names. No, Theodore Whitmore is not one of them, as I know he has been working with CVM.
