Coventry City set to offer former Wigan striker Marlon King deal ahead of prison release

On his way back? Coventry could offer King a deal

Coventry City are keen on disgraced striker Marlon King.

King, 30, is serving an 18-month jail term for sexual assault but is due to released before the start of next season.

The former Wigan man is a free agent after having his contract terminated by them after being convicted last October.

Coventry manager Aidy Bothroyd guided King through the most successful period of his career at Watford. And Bothyroyd is ready to give King a route back into professional football once he leaves prison.

Queens Park Rangers are also keeping tabs on King's situation. Coventry, meanwhile, have agreed to re-sign Gary McSheffrey, 27, on a 12 month contract with view to another year.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
