Glenn Beck is such a confounded FOOL...

Glenn Beck has never hidden his dislike for the policies of President Obama. Beck continually paints the President as a puppet of a Marxist, progressive plot to take over the United States and the world. Yesterday Beck tried to explain his disfavor toward the President's policies by comparing them to the World Cup.

According to the Beck reasoning (listen below), President Obama's policies are similar to the World Cup because both are popular throughout the world, but not with Americans. Beck claims that both will never be popular in America no matter how they try to "shove it down our throats." Beck also states that soccer is the only sport that has any rioting.

For liberals, Beck's flawed reasoning often manifests itself when he assumes that everyone is like him. Soccer may not be popular to Beck, but many Americans have grown to love the "beautiful game."

The recent match between the United States and England drew 13 million fans on ABC alone. That does not count the numerous viewers watching on Univision or the internet (where it was being live streamed by ESPN). Media Matters notes that over 120 million Americans watched the World Cup in 2006, and 17 million watched the final match alone which featured no American team.

Those numbers compare favorably to the NBA Finals (15 million) and World Series (19 million). The Super Bowl beats everyone by a very large margin. As for Beck claim that soccer is the sport with riots, many Americans are familiar with post-championship celebrations that have caused small scale riots in numerous American cities. Wikipedia lists hundreds of violent incidents in sports most of which do not come from the game of soccer.
