André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter The much-travelled Geoffrey Maxwell is on the move again, this time after he was relieved of his duties at Digicel Premier League outfit, Waterhouse Football Club, yesterday afternoon.
Maxwell, who led the Drewsland-based club from the Major League to the Premier League, steered the team this season to a third-place finish - 17 points behind winners Harbour View.
Former national striker Paul Young is tipped to be named as his replacement within the next few weeks, with the club expected to make an announcement before the start of July.
Club president Ricky Chin did not confirm the Paul Young development, but explained the reasons behind Maxwell's dismissal.
wasted energy
"Let's just say that we didn't have the same plans for the club or weren't moving in the same direction," Chin said. "We managed the situation in the last season but we could not continue like this; that's a lot of wasted energy."
He added: "We could not go into the preseason with this kind of situation."
Several attempts to contact Maxwell for a response proved futile, as his cellphone rang without an answer.
Meanwhile, the club also announced that several players will be jetting off for trials in the United States. Theo Brown, Kenardo Forbes and Andre Clennon will depart tomorrow for Colorado, where they will go on a two-week trial with Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids.
All three players are members of the current national Under-21 squad in training for the CAC Games in July and are prospects for the national Under-23 team to play in the Olympic qualifiers next year.
