    GUNNERS: The heart of defense

    Arsenal are interested in Lorient’s £8m-rated centre back Laurent Koscielny, 24, who is eligible to play for for Poland and France.
    The 6ft 1in defender became an integral part of Lorient's defence, as the Ligue 1 outfit finished seventh in the table.


    Koscielny, who played 35 times last season, moved from Tours to Lorient last summer for around £1.2m.

    After bringing Thomas Vermaelen to the Emirates from Ajax for £10m last season, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger needs to strengthen the heart of his defence with uncertainty surrounding the futures of William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre.

    better move...vermaelen has good maturity already (reminds me of chivu when he was at ajax) another good young centre half is a good move. the problem is, we will then have to make sure that is not another start and stop thing...what gunners is lacking most right now is stability in personnel year in year out.

      Looks like a revamped team.

      What killed us last season was lack of adequate replacements when players went down injuried. Arsene needs to improve the squad in personel - quality and quantity!

      BoyU and the Blues always had adequate replacements when there frontline men went down. We need to have the same depth they have.

        depth and consistency...we cannot be changing KEY personnel like that every year......letting henry go at that time in those circumstances was a mistake! mi seh dat LONG time!

              No rut started when TH14 was allowed, some said he earned the right, to destroy the policy of TEAM FIRST and make our displays about him. That gave pip-squeaks like Samir Nasri and others the arrogance to too often ignore TEAM in critical situation and make it difficult to win games.

              Yup...some of them need to go NOW! Perhaps Arsene can re-establish his policy.

                    they won the year before (FA cup) ... and there were some years in between. i think this is the LONGEST barren stretch.....
