Reid awaits call from Swedish outfit
BY LIVINGSTON SCOTT Observer staff reporter
    Thursday, May 27, 2010

PORTMORE United's central defender Adrian Reid, who was set to go on trial with Swedish second division club Assyriska earlier last month but had to postponed his trip to the Scandinavian country after picking up a knee injury, says he is almost back to full fitness and is eagerly awaiting the opportunity.

The 25-year-old who did a four-month loan stint with Norwegian outfit Lillestrom, twisted his knee in a local Premier League match earlier this season, but said he had under-estimated the severity of his injury.

He found out the full extent of the damage while undergoing a medical with Assyriska and had to return home to receive treatment.
"I twisted my knee the day before I was to leave, but because I didn't get injured with the team (Assyariska) so... I had to come back to Jamaica and get it sorted out," he explained.

However, the club did assure him that if they did not sign anyone by the next transfer window, he would be recalled.

Reid was spotted by the Assyariska coach during Portmore's tour of Norway last year and wanted to sign him right away. But a deal had already been reached with Lillestrom.

However, when that stint ended, the Swedish club, which insisted they would sign the player if he wasn't contracted by Lillestrom, approached Portmore to acquire the defender's signature, but the the sudden injury railroaded his move.

"I've been here seven weeks and although I'm not 100 per cent I'm about 70 per cent," he declared.

"But the manager there knows me; he knows what I can do, so this is not really a trail because he says he wants me in his team," he added.
Reid said the clubs have made contact recently, but he does not know the extent of the talks between them.

"I don't think the spot is taken yet because they have contacted my manager and asked if I'm ready, so I guess it's still there.
"But my job is just to keep training and try to keep myself fit so that whenever they call on me I'm ready," he said.

I don't get it, this buy is nothing special.... real nice perosn and all but not that special on a football field..but then if Claude can sign successive multi-million Pound contracts...
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.
