  • Tranmere avoid relegation thanks to Pepe's goal

Who better than Ian Goodison and Ian Thomas-Moore to score the goals that kept Tranmere in League One?

Goodison, has more than 250 Rovers appearances to his name, two Player of the Season awards, two North West League One Player of the Year awards and now a relegation-preventing strike.

Thomas-Moore, club captain and leading scorer for the season can now also add a crucial final day of the season strike to his CV.

The pair were joined on the scoresheet by Joss Labadie for the third time since the midfielder joined on loan from West Brom and results elsewhere meant Rovers finished the season in 19th place.

It was a deserved victory for Les Parry's side who were backed brilliantly by 3,088 Rovers fans throught the 90 minutes.

There was just one change to the side that started against Millwall with John Welsh missing out due to an Achilles injury and Gareth Edds taking his place in the centre of midfield alongside Ash Taylor and Joss Labadie.

After a bright start, Stockport had the ball in the net inside the second minute but Jabo Ibehre's effort was ruled out for offside.

Some frantic end to end action eventually saw Edds work his way into the Stockport area but his close range shot went wide of the target, while Shaleum Logan fired over from 30 yards as news of Huddersfield taking the lead at Exeter filtered around the Rovers fans.

Adam Griffin headed wide from 16yards for the hosts on 21 minutes and soon after news broke of an equaliser for Exeter at St James' Park.

A cross from Ian Goodison narrowly missed Ash Taylor at the far post but on 37 minutes the Jamaican turned goalscorer. After flicking on a throw in from Zoumana Bakayogo, the ball returned to the centre back who turned and smashed a shot high into the net giving Lloyd Rigby no chance of a save.

The 3,000 travelling fans were still at full voice two minutes later when Ian Thomas-Moore brought a decent save out of Rigby but the striker was unable to keep his rebound shot from going over the bar.

A 25-yard shot from Labadie went narrowly wide of the target on 42 minutes while Peter Gulacsi saved a low drive from Ibehre two minutes later at the second attempt.

Eight minutes into the second half Rovers' hopes of safety looked even better. Bas Savage held of a defender before laying the ball off for Bakayogo whose cross was converted by the outstretched leg of Ian Thomas-Moore.

Moments later Labadie headed narrowly wide of the far post as Tranmere pushed for a third though Danny Pilkington tested Gulacsi at the other end with a shot from the edge of the area.

A slip from Goodison gave James Vincent a chance on 60 minutes but the youngster sent his left foot shot wide of goal.

Marlon Broomes headed a dangerous Andy Halls cross away from the six yard box on 63 minutes as the home side continued to look for a way back into the game.

Hatters substitute Jemal Johnson curled a 20 yard free kick just past the top right corner on 73 minutes, not long after reports broke of Wycombe taking a two goal lead over Gillingham, further good news for Les Parry's side.

Two minutes later it got even better. A shot from Savage was saved by Rigby but the keeper spilled the ball and Labadie pounced to convert from close range.

Ash Taylor fired wide on 80 minutes and Thomas-Moore brought a decent save out of Rigby with a curling effort from the edge of the area six minutes later.

Gulacsi denied Stockport a consolation deep in injury time and just moments before the referee brought Rovers' season to a close.
