It's dependent on the competition in which the incident happened.
If Totti had committed the foul in the Champions League then he would have served the ban in that competition and still been able to play in the Serie A. This time it happened in the Italian Cup so he'll be missing the next 4 cup games.

all the elements of a criminal act are there including intent. when one plays football it is DEFINITELY not consent to be assaulted like that!
