Chelsea fans demand Double victory parade pledge as World Cup threatens to KO celebration

Chelsea supporters may be denied the opportunity to honour their heroes with a victory parade - even if the Blues win a historic Double.
The club are favourites to win the Barclays Premier League and the FA Cup, but face a logistical nightmare in arranging the customary open-top bus procession of their trophies.
Supporters missed out on celebrations in 2007 and after their Cup triumph last year, when Chelsea were unwilling to pay the £250,000 cost of cancelling the parade at short notice if they lost the Cup final.

And despite opening talks with local authorities about an event this year, the London Evening Standard reports that the parade could be scuppered if too many of their players are called away to report for World Cup duty.
However, Blues fan Darren Mantle told the paper: 'To win the Double for the first time in our history would be an amazing achievement and we would want to show our appreciation to the players and the manager.
'They have got to try as hard as they can to make it happen.
'When Chelsea held the last parade after winning the League in 2006, over 100,000 people turned up. It will be even bigger this time if they do it.

'A lot of fans will miss out on seeing the games so it is a chance for them to join in the celebrations.'
The parade has been pencilled in for Sunday May 16, the day after the FA Cup Final against Portsmouth.
Duty calls: Salomon Kalou is among the Chelsea stars expecting to go to the World Cup

England internationals such as John Terry and Frank Lampard would not have to fly out to England's training camp until the Monday, but the club's foreign stars may have different demands.
Chelsea confirmed they were in preliminary talks with local authorities.
'It's only prudent to plan ahead for the possibility of a large scale event should the club be successful this season,' said a spokesman.
'Due to the timescales involved in authorising the required licences and permissions, it's important to give local authorities sufficient lead time to plan effectively.'

Using Kalou as a third striker was genius on Chelsea's part.
