A four-man assessment team from FIFA's Member Association Professionalisation Programme is due in the island next Wednesday to conduct an audit to determine the specific state and needs of Jamaica's football marketing construct.
The team, which will visit for four days, will consist of Urs Zanitti and Chris Collie of FIFA's Member Association Professionalisation Programme; FIFA development manager for the Americas and the Caribbean Gregory Engelbrecht and FIFA assistant development officer for the Caribbean Newton George.
During the period, the men will hold meetings with Minister of Sports Olivia Grange, JFF's existing and potential sponsors, officers and senior management staff of the JFF, the media, UTech, UWI and a host of other stakeholders.
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell -- who is in Switzerland, where he spearheaded talks with FIFA groups as part of the new FIFA initiative, WIN in CONCACAF with CONCACAF -- said Jamaica's football stands to benefit from the mission.
"I'm very pleased that FIFA and CONCACAF have recognised the need to further invest in the growth and development of football in countries like Jamaica and I must congratulate FIFA president (Sepp) Blatter and CONCACAF president (Jack) Warner for this very important and timely initiative," he said from Bern, Switzerland, Monday.
The FIFA will also use the occasion of the visit to tour and assess the progress of the FIFA Goal Project to be constructed on lands at the UWI, as well as tour the National Stadium in Kingston and the JFF's headquarters in New Kingston.
According to JFF general secretary Horace Reid, marketing is recognised as a critical aspect of a modern football programme and his organisation is determined to strengthen its capabilities in this area ahead of Brazil 2014, and other major upcoming competitions.
"The JFF welcomes every opportunity for capacity building as we continue with our objective in developing a very solid foundation capable of sustaining a professional football administration and its technical development for generations to come," said Reid.
"If we expand and improve in the development of administrators, coaches and referees then these three very critical components of our sport will go a far way in guaranteeing its longevity," he added.
In 2009, FIFA and CONCACAF formulated the development programme -- WIN in CONCACAF with CONCACAF -- which initially saw investment into targeted North and Central American football programmes, but now the Caribbean region has been embraced into a broader layout.
The programme -- headed by Trinidadian Keith Look Loy -- focuses on leagues and club administration; youth development programmes and competitions; referee development and coach education.
Jamaica has been selected as one of the pilots for this FIFA/CONCACAF rollout because it is viewed as being one of the "better administered FIFA member associations from the developing world".
