Former national striker, Patrick Beech, was shot and killed in Oregon in the United States of America yesterday.

At a Digicel Premier League football match at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday, members of the St Catherine football family expressed grief at his passing and said he will be sadly missed.

"He was such an effervescent person, one who would be constantly motivating the players around him. He is sadly missed by us, "said former Jamaica Football Federation and St Catherine Football Association president, Lincoln 'Happy' Sutherland.

Beech also represented Rivoli for a number of years.

"Beech was a great footballer who scored many brilliant goals for his team. He was one of the talents discovered by René Simoes," said Omar Parker, Rivoli's captain.

Ann-marie Reid, manager of Rivoli United, said Beech was a good person who made football his life.

"He played for several teams and still had a desire to contribute, as he last played for Duhaney Park," Reid said.

Other persons told The Gleaner that the late footballer, who had a stint in the US A League, will be sadly missed.

His death brings to two the number of former Rivoli players to be killed in the United States as Mark Wisdom was shot to death three years ago.
