  • Damian Stewart in hospital

DAMION STEWART had a miracle escape following a sickening clash of heads with Crystal Palace striker Calvin Andrew.

The QPR defender was rushed to hospital after the first-minute accident left him with a fractured skull and bleeding into the brain.

But after spending Saturday night in hospital, where he was able to sit up and talk, yesterday Stewart was described as stable. The Jamaica star will have further tests today.

Rangers physio Paul Hunter said: "Damion has shown normal neurological signs throughout, which is reassuring."

QPR boss Neil Warnock said: "He suffered a slight crack to his skull and was in agony. It was a savage collision."

Sorry to hear. Hope he will overcome this setback and get back into playing condition.

Apr 12 2010 By Jacob Murtagh

Damion Stewart has had a lucky escape after his clash of heads with Calvin Andrew landed him in hospital.
The Jamaican defender suffered a skull fracture just three seconds into Saturday's clash at Crystal Palace.
But he is ‘stable’ in a private hospital ahead of further tests today.
Physio Paul Hunter told the QPR website: “I am pleased to report the bleeding into the brain has stopped, but we will continue to monitor his status on an hourly basis.
"Damion has shown normal neurological signs throughout, which is very reassuring.”

I would expect, full recovery taken as a given and then taking no chances...Damion will be out for at least 2 seasons.

It appears to be more serious than the article implies.
              Hoping for a full recovery.

                  No Surgery For Stewart

CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS Damion Stewart - no surgery needed.
NO SURGERY FOR STEWART QPR defender Damion Stewart does not require surgery and will be fit in time for pre-season training after fracturing his skull on Saturday.
Stewart was involved in a sickening collision with Crystal Palace striker Calvin Andrew inside the first minute at Selhurst Park and suffered internal bleeding as well as the fracture.
Head physio Paul Hunter told the club's official website: "The results of the scans have given us some good news in the respect that there's no further damage to what we were already aware of.
"These tests are more detailed than the original ones carried out at Mayday Hospital so could potentially have provided us with extra cause for concern. Thankfully, that's not the case.
"Damion will have a precautionary brain scan on Thursday and will remain in hospital for the rest of the week.
"He's currently at greater risk of developing infections so we need to keep a close eye on him. No surgery is required, which is great news, and having spoken with the surgeon, he is confident Damion will be ready to return for pre-season training."
