RAFA BENITEZ wants the 'real' Liverpool to stand up and be counted against Lille on Thursday.
The Reds boss was left fuming after watching his side crash to a 1-0 defeat at Wigan on Monday.
And Benitez has challenged his players to make amends in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League clash in France.
He said: "The Wigan game was an opportunity to get back in the top four — an opportunity that was lost.
"You cannot change things but we have an opportunity now in the Europa League and must try to do our best.
"A game right now will be a chance for the players to show their character.
"The last 10 games we have been OK. We had character, everyone was working hard, helping each other and working together.
"Hopefully the result at Wigan is just a blip and we will see the real Liverpool on Thursday.
"We realise this is important for a lot of people. I think the players know we have to improve.
"We cannot make mistakes. We could not before Wigan and we cannot now.
"We have to approach every game thinking it is the most important game of the season. We have to be really focused."
