Lovel Palmer has passed the first test, but bigger challenges lie in store if he is to step into the Houston Dynamo's midfield. Palmer was in Houston on Friday, training on the first day of a second one-week trial with the club. His play during the first trial, including a spectacular long-range goal against FC Dallas on February 27, earned him the callback ahead of several other trialists.
"He obviously scored a great goal that stood out, but it was also the way he worked on and off the ball," Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "He tried to get on the ball, he broke up plays, and he tackled - sometimes very hard - which we like in that position. He was clean with the ball and made good decisions."
Palmer, 25, is under contract with Jamaican club Harbour View, where he is team captain, but the Premier League Clubs Association in Jamaica is looking to sell players to Major League Soccer to raise money, and Palmer may have found a good fit.
"I'm very happy that I was chosen to come here," Palmer said. "The Houston Dynamo is one of the most successful teams in MLS, so I'm very happy. I've been following the league for a long time. I know the Dynamo are one of the best teams in the league and have been one of the most successful."

Good work. Is a hard working breddah with the correct attitude. Hopefully he can secure a contract.

If only some of our other talents applied themself like he did when they were younger, we wouldn't have to have the shoe shiner harassing the forum every week.

Well Mo prepare for a Jamaican Football diabetic shock! Guess what Jamaican scored against West Ham yesterday?

In all honesty I have been following all the JA players in MLS during preseason but have held off on posting about them as I did not want to start so early bombarding the board with MLS news before the start of the season. - T.K.

LONDON -- The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Barclays Premier League side West Ham United 2-0 on Monday at Upton Park in London. The Earthquakes benefited from an own goal by Jordan Spence and a goal on their own by Ryan Johnson.

San Jose took the lead at Upton Park in the 8th minute, on an own goal by Jordan Spence. Bobby Convey whipped a low cross off of a free kick to the near post, and Spence had it graze off his head and past the keeper, Peter Kurucz. The initial foul was drawn by Ryan Johnson, who was brought down near the corner flag.

San Jose possessed the ball very well throughout the 90 minutes, holding a good portion of possession in the match. The Quakes saw another scoring opportunity materialize in the first half, as Convey and Arturo Alvarez combined, which sent Convey through on goal, but Kurucz came out with a sliding stop.

Once the second half began, San Jose was at it again, and in the 50th minute, Johnson was played in by Joey Gjertsen, who intercepted possession near midfield. Johnson fought through a few challenges and finished into the bottom corner of the far post to double the tally for the Quakes.

San Jose nearly added a third in the 61st minute when Alvarez weaved through the West Ham defense and broke through on goal, but Kurucz was equal to the task, parrying Alvarezs drive over the bar for a corner.

West Ham looked to draw one back in the 85th minute as Josh Payne had an opportunity from about 25 yards out, but his shot was hit just wide.

San Jose beat a West Ham side with 10 players who have played at some point with the first team and held them scoreless behind some very solid defense. West Ham did not register a shot on target during the full 90 minutes.

The Earthquakes continue their string of matches this week in London with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday at Spurs Lodge. Spurs are said to be playing some regulars in that match as well. Friday, San Jose takes on the Colorado Rapids at Spurs Lodge as well to round out the set of three games. Yeah Shola for a selfish man like myself it would be great to see Palmer at the Dynamo so that I can watch him play every week.

In all seriousness though the Houston dynamo for the last 10 years has been the best franchise in all of MLS. Not only that but they use their entire roster during the course of a season so it would be a great opportunity if Palmer is able to make the squad. The coach Kinnear in my opinion is a future of US national team coach. Lovell could not find himself in a better situation as far as MLS is concerned. Wish him well.

Mo what is in the water at H View? Anyway I can bottle that? That club always seems to be able to move players to the next level. - T.K.
