The rise (and fall?) of P'More Utd

    Sunday, March 07, 2010

WHATEVER the reason, it's killing Portmore United. At least for now. With the possibility of relegation from the Digicel Premier League (DPL), Portmore United are desperate for answers to halt their crippling slide. Portmore, one of the nation's st ...

bad decision and here is whY? Thats like saying the men's team should not enter the World Cup because they have not chance of competing. Reid made a mistake. They should have used the u20 team and get them the experience. I understand the cash situation but this is sending the wrong message. If boxhill did this we would crucify him. Case and point i have been to mexico and say their women program some 5 years ago and now its improved 300%... why they worked with it. Inviting club teams in to play until now they are now a bonafide program.

Could win signal a Portmore revival?

CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon -- Former Eltham High Manning Cupper, Tremaine Stewart, in one of his rare starts of the Digicel Premier League season, repaid his coach with a goal that handed them a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Sporting Central Academy in third-round action at Brancourt yesterday.
Stewart's goal in the 27th minute of play could possibly signal a turn around in Portmore fortunes. They have now moved to 30 points but still very much in relegation troubles.
Sporting, who are now winless in their last eight games, which include four defeats, remain on 30 points and remain in danger of going down.
Both teams, having realised that nothing but a win can help their cause of playing Premier League football next season, started the game with much purpose as
they stroked the ball around the park, but it was the visitors who looked more threatening.
On 18 minutes, Trevol Smith in only his second start of the season, came close to opening the scoring when he unleashed a curling right-footer, which Andre Blake had to watch carefully before tipping over for a corner.
Moments later, Sporting replied when national youth player Alanzo Adlam curled in a free-kick from some 30 yards, but Dwayne Kerr was well-positioned in goal to make the stop.
Portmore would, however, went ahead in the 27th minute on the counter-attack, after Kerr released quickly to Ricardo Cousins, who split opened the defence with a through pass for Stewart to slot home past Blake.
In another result, Boys' Town and St Georges SC played to a goal-less draw at Collie Smith Drive.
