  • Raul to the Red Bulls?

Real Madrid's record-breaking captain Raul will join MLS side New York Red Bulls next season, according to Spanish daily Marca.

The Madrid-based newspaper, that has close ties with Real, claims Raul is eager to play in America and will be paid the same wage he receives at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 32-year-old, who is Real's all-time top scorer, has been at Los Blancos since he was 17 and enjoyed a trophy-laden career. He has slipped down the pecking order of late as club president Florentino Perez builds another team of galacticos.

Raul recently admitted he was considering his future at Real. "For 15 years I have won practically everything, and in the last three months I have played less," he said. "It's not an ideal situation for any player."

Raul's agent Gines Carvajal has confirmed that a number of clubs have shown an interest in the player, but added that his client could remain at Real.

Carvajal said: "Some clubs have asked about Raul, but that is a question that depends exclusively on the player and he is very happy in Madrid."

The New York Red Bulls are reportedly trying to build a team of superstars and have been linked with Barcelona striker Thierry Henry and a bid to tempt AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini out of retirement.

David Beckham left Real Madrid to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 and raised the global profile of the U.S. league.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

This is good for MLS from any angle you look at it.

BTW: Lets welcome the Philadelphia Uniuon to MLS.

In 5-10 years MLS will rival the top European professional leagues.

I prefer the marketing and franchise system of the MLS over the european model.

Maldini is a bad idea, but if they are going for players like Beckham, Raul and Henry who have some productivity left then they can definitely get people in the stadium and improve the product.

Getting Maldini is going back to the days of Mattheus and Donadoni.

Raul has got maybe another 2 years left in his tank, but Maldini been done for a while. If Red Bulls smart, dem fi sign Raul on a free transfer, however they will pay Madrid $1M or more. Metrostars paid Bayern Munich $1M in 2000 for Lothar Matthäus and he played only 16 matches.

LOL...This club needs to be burned down to the ground. Bradley called up an all mls based squad for the last friendly and not ONE single dibbi dibbi red bull get called up. Not one trophy to their name in any competition at anytime. Trades away their young players to bring in the AARP. The most coaching turnover out of any team in MLS. This is the most embarassing franchise in all sporting history. MLS should seriously consider removing them from the league. - T.K.
