Chelsea remain top of the Premier League, but only by a point as they were defeated 2-1 by Everton, as Manchester United drew 1-1 at Aston Villa, whilst Arsenal defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Emirates.
Everton had gone behind at Goodison Park early on as Didier Drogba fed Florent Malouda and he held off Phil Neville to fire past Tim Howard.
But David Moyes' side battled well and got an equaliser they deserved as Louis Saha met a Landon Donovan to head home.
But things could have been much worse for Chelsea, had Saha not missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Donovan was brought down by Ricardo Carvalho, but Saha could not beat Petr Cech from 12 yards as he pushed the ball away to safety.
Saha, though, did have the final say. John Terry missed a long clearance from the Everton back-line, which allowed the Frenchman to turn on the edge of the area and smash it past a helpless Cech and secure a very good win for The Toffees.
Carlo Ancelotti's men remain top, but are now just a point adrift of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United - who claimed a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.
Martin O'Neill's side had attacked from the off at Villa Park and were rewarded after 19 minutes when Carlos Cuellar headed home.
Stewart Downing delivered the ball into the box, Rafael cleared ahead of Richard Dunne, but only as far as Cuellar who looped a header over Edwin van der Sar into the far corner.
But United did not take long to restore parity as Ryan Giggs was found by Nani, the veteran Welshman fired the ball back across goal where James Collins was helpless to prevent the ball going in off his leg.
Moments later and man-of-the-moment Nani was again involved in the action - but this time not how he would have envisaged as he was handed a straight red for a lunge on Stiliyan Petrov.
Arsenal shrugged of their recent defeats to Chelsea and United, to bounce back to winning ways with a 1-0 success over Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger's men left it late and it was substitute Tomas Rosicky who unlocked Liverpool down their left and crossed for Abou Diaby to head home from close range.
Arsenal are now eight points clear in third - although Manchester City in fifth, who are only behind Liverpool on goal difference, do have a game in hand.
Tottenham missed the chance to move back into the top four as they suffered a 1-0 loss at Wolves - who move out of the bottom three courtesy of the win.
The only goal of the game at Molineux arrived just before the half-hour when Matt Jarvis' cross was met by David Jones, who swept the ball past Heurelho Gomes.
West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold were left ecstatic as their newly acquired charges joined Wolves in moving out of the bottom three as they claimed a 2-0 win over Birmingham at Upton Park.
The deadlock was broken on the stroke of half-time when Alessandro Diamanti curled home a brilliant free-kick from the edge of the box.
The Hammers claimed the win they deserved on 67 minutes as Carlton Cole headed home from point-blank range after good work down the right from Julien Faubert.
The successes for West Ham and Wolves also meant Hull Citydropped to fourth from bottom after they lost 1-0 at Blackburn - who climbed eleventh.
The only goal of the game at Ewood Park came after just 16 minutes and it was one to forget for Tigers keeper Boaz Myhill.
Martin Olsson did brilliantly to battle his way down the left and he got to the by-line and from an acute angle fired his shot into the back of the net, albeit in no small way thanks the inside of Myhill's leg.
Phil Brown's side also had to play the whole of the second half with ten man as George Boateng was dismissed for his aerial challenge on Morten Gamst Pedersen
