Sited on the coastline of the northern parish of Trelawny, the US$30-million stadium is an intriguing catch for newcomers to the previously greenfield area.

But most attractive of all, are the self-closed seats that are specifically laid out in both colour and form, showing Jamaica's national flag.
A beautiful sight of the sky-blue Caribbean sea also catches the eyes of those fans seated in the southern stand, while spectators in the north stand have a picturesque view of a lush-green mountain range.

"It's really impressive. It's looking good for the World Cup," beamed Anthony McGrath, a member of the Lashings cricket team. "The wicket played really well... and I think once the World Cup comes around... the stadium, which is nearly complete now, will be in fantastic nick," stated the Englishman.
Last week, Lashings were in the island as part of the inaugural four-day Jamaica Cricket Festival of Stars event, which included a 40-over match against a Jamaica Invitational XI.
"I am so impressed with this new stadium," said a delighted Alvin Kallicharran, who played in two World Cups for the West Indies.
"... And that is very, very encouraging to see what is going to happen," added the man who now coaches the world-renowned Lashings side.
For Kallicharran "the design, the wicket, the field, the layout, the facilities... everything" about the stadium is simply amazing.
"The structure is just magnificent," stressed the 57-year-old Guyanese.
The Trelawny stadium is one of only five newly built stadia for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup to be staged in the Caribbean for the first time, and the only one already hosting cricket matches.
The other stadiums are the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Queen's Park in Grenada, Guyana's Providence Stadium and the Warner Park Stadium in St Kitts.
In his second trip to Jamaica, former Pakistani wicketkeeper/batsman Rashid Latif, also had good remarks on the 25,000-seater stadium.
"It's a very good stadium," said Latif, whose first visit to the island was on the 1993 Pakistan tour of the West Indies. "I think it is good for Jamaica and West Indies cricket."
"The future now looks bright for the West Indies," added Latif. "After the World Cup, a new generation will be back for the cricket."
As part of Jamaica's Yellow Package, the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium will host a predictable "high-energy" opening ceremony on March 11, plus four warm-up matches.
Former West Indies' seamer, Vasbert Drakes, who is a Lashings player, welcomes the mega sporting event to the Caribbean.
"We hosting the World Cup is obviously a wonderful occasion. And to get an opport

and I am sure you do understand that even if the TFA/Village gets the facilities,it takes more thana greatstadium to make a truly 'professional' club, right?

Even before one spade full of dirt was broken in Daniel Town, plans were afoot to ensure the stadium is used at least once a month for a variety of events, not just for sports but entertainment, conferences retreats etc..

That is why I said...'real' professional...and,did not name any of our current football clubs. I really meant what I said - a real professional football entity.

That I knew! Thinking it is also a great venue for T&F.

...but, with all the various activities suggested...it would still make a great football venue/place/football club's home!
