  • Addlery to join Cruz Azul

    Nodley Wright, STAR Writer

Reggae Boy Nicholas Addlery is poised to become the third Jamaican footballer to be signed by a Mexican club.

Addlery who is expected to be signed soon by Mexican powerhouse Cruz Azul will follow in the footsteps of former Jamaica internationals Peter Isaacs who did so in the 1980s and Onandi Lowe who had a brief stint with FC Guadalajara in 1997.

The 28-year-old who has ended a loan spell with Salvadoran team CD Aguila is in Mexico City working out with Cruz Azul as they seek to finalise a deal with Puerto Rico Islanders with which Addlery is contracted for another year.

"Nick is currently in Mexico and what's happening right now is that both clubs, Cruz Azul and the Puerto Rico Islanders, are trying to figure out a way to make it work for them," explained Greg Simmonds, Addlery's manager who is also a former Reggae Boy.

I heard ther rumors for a week now so good luck to him.

Simmonds is now a manager, good.

Congrats to Addlery. More disciplined and hard working than our average player and it is finally paying off for him after much travelling.

It is quite interesting how he has refined his game to become a back to goal target man, but when he was at JC he was a creative midfielder who would pile, salad and dribble around countless people. Similar change happened with Damani Ralph when he left high school.
