  • Unconfirmed reports that a young Arnett player

collapsed and died in training this morning. Will withhold his name until confirmation.

He was a very talented defender who was also picked out by visiting Serbian scout, Milan Dovedan, some months ago.

Just yesterday, another Arnett player was rushed to hospital after he began throwing up and became delirious for a while. He recovered and is out of hospital.

Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

The President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, the Board and staff of the JFF would like to express condolence to the family, former teammates, friends and associates of Arnett Gardens player, Nico Collins, who passed on Tuesday January 12, 2010 just under a month short of his 20th birthday.

Collins who attended Trench Town Comprehensive and represented Arnett Gardens at the youth level then moved to Cavaliers before returning to Arnett Gardens two seasons ago died after collapsing in training.

“As a parent and one who has lost a child I know that it rips the heart out to lose a child and especially one at the prime of his life. I know it must be painful for his parents, relatives and club members but know that we are a family and we support you through your grief,” Captain Burrell said.

He added: “As difficult and unfathomable as the situation is, I implore you to take comfort in Lamentations 3:31-33 which says: ‘For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.”

Collins is survived by father Louis Collins, mother Paula Levy, stepmother Merdel Gayle, brothers and sisters.

Any idea what happened to him? Yes he collapsed and died, but what caused his death?

haven't heard any reports on that as yet.

one wonders if all players in the NPL have had medical checkups. and not just blood pressure checks. it was weird too that another arnett player gave us a scare only yesterday, and now this!

me and a brethren was just talking about it yesterday. He told me he took in a few NPL games and that there is a lot of cramps during games. He thinks that is a result of excessive drinking and bleaching by the players.

Sorry to hear about this youngster. Wish his family the best during this time.

many of the injuries are fakes. the habit is destroying the game. as soon as one side takes the lead, the faking starts. some teams and players are more guilty than others, but somebody needs to put a stop to it.

however, i did see two footballers at the quad on saturday. they both play for the two finalists of the end of second round. one of them even scored last weekend after bleaching (staying out late, not the skin colour thing) the night before!
