The jersey of Marco Terminesi (right) will be adorned by a logo from BD's Mongolian Grill.
They do things a little differently in the Major Indoor Soccer League. And Marco Terminesi, a midfielder/forward with the Milwaukee Wave, couldn't be happier.
Terminesi is among several Wave players who have convinced a business to sponsor them personally.
Terminesi is sponsored by BD's Mongolian Grill, the order-your-own stir-fry restaurant in the Bayshore Town Center.
The restaurant logo is on his uniform. When he scores a goal, BD's Mongolian is seen on the scoreboard and the announcer tells the crowd that BD's sponsors Terminesi.
BD's also gets some signage in the U.S. Cellular Arena.
Terminesi said he ate at the restaurant last year and loved the food. He met Felipe Camargo, the general manager of BD's.
Terminesi was not happy with his previous sponsor. So he kept coming to the restaurant with friends and teammates and one thing led to another. Terminesi asked Camargo if he would sponsor him.
"It's perfect for me," Terminesi said. "It's healthy food, and the players go there. And Felipe likes soccer."
Camargo, a soccer fan, said he's been happy with the response.
Jeff Kopp, a Wave account representative, said nearly all of the Wave players have some kind of sponsor, which is allowed in the league.
For example, Troy Dusosky, a defender, is sponsored by 5 Star Energy. And Brett Wiesner, a midfielder, wears the Hooters logo.
