Who will take the U-17 crown?

    (FIFA.com) Friday 13 November 2009

So far, the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2009 in Nigeria has provided us with passionate support, breathtaking skill, youthful enthusiasm and a mammoth 149 goals. Now, what has proved to be a memorable tournament is gearing up for its grand finale at the Abuja National Stadium, set to kick off on Sunday at 19.00 local time.

Tournament debutants Switzerland will be desperate to spoil the party for the hosts and reigning champions Nigeria. Underdogs against favourites, upstarts against the champions, call it what you will, the battle for the FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy has all the ingredients of an enthralling encounter. Reason enough, then, for us to ask FIFA.com users a vital question:Who will emerge victorious at Nigeria 2009?

The Nigerians have delighted their home fans with victories over highly-fancied Argentina and Spain, a relentless performance against Korea Republic and an incredible fight-back from three goals down in their opening game against Germany. For their part, the Swiss have played some scintillating football, their individual class and unerring self-belief helping them to overcome the likes of Brazil and Italy before inflicting a crushing 4-0 defeat on Colombia in the semi-finals.

Nigerian supersub Sami Emmanuel already has five goals to his name, while Swiss strike duo Haris Seferovic and Nassim Ben Khalifa have grabbed eight between them, setting the stage for an intriguing contest. And the coaches of each nation, Dany Ryser (Switzerland) and John Obuh (Nigeria), have both promised that their charges will stop at nothing in their respective quests to get their hands on the coveted trophy come Sunday evening in the Nigerian capital.
