MONTEGO BAY - The much-travelled football coach Geoffrey Maxwell is on the move again after he was asked to resign as the coach of struggling Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) team, Seba United.
Bruce Gaynor, chairman of the Montego Bay-based club, confirmed the report and said former national captain
Theodore Whitmore will take over as player/coach for the next two games until a permanent replacement is found.
Gaynor told the Sporting World Maxwell was asked to resign on Monday after the club's 0-3 loss to Portmore United at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
"We feel that some changes have to be made, we can't change the players now as the transfer window does not open until January, but we needed to make a change now," Gaynor said.
Seba are currently in 11th position in the 12-team league on 10 points, having gone without a win in their last five games. They have only won three of their 12 matches this season.
Seba started the campaign with a bang by beating Portmore 2-0 on the opening day, but then went three matches without a win before beating Boys' Town 3-1 in Kingston. Their only other win came at home against Tivoli Gardens.
Gaynor said Heron Grey, who had taken over from Paul 'Tegat' Davis, was still with the club but had some other commitments and would not be able to take over full time as coach of the team.
When contacted about a possible replacement for Maxwell, managing director of the club Orville Powell did not give a name but said an announcement would be made in a few days.
Maxwell took over the former two-time champions in July this year and has worked with a number of other teams since leading Waterhouse to the title in the 1997/98 season.
Maxwell, one of the most outspoken but respected coaches in the island, also coached Reno FC, Village United, Rivoli, Constant Spring, Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens.
When contacted last night, Maxwell said he would not comment before Seba did. However, efforts to contact him later for comment proved futile.
