Liverpool legend John Barnes has applied for the vacant job as Rwanda's national team coach.
The former England international has recently been sacked as Tranmere manager after a wretched start to their League One campaign.
But the 45-year-old, who has gained experience of international management in a one-year stint with Jamaica, wants to relaunch his coaching career in Africa.
Joseph Habineza, the Sports Minister of Rwanda, told skysports.com: "It is an honour for our country that a football man such as John Barnes is interested in managing our national team.
Strong contender
"There is a very strong possibility of employing such a figure but we will see what to do because we also have to agree a financial package and everything."
Barnes left his role with Jamaica in June and was sacked as Tranmere boss after just four months in charge.
Days later he was declared bankrupt over unpaid taxes, although Barnes has since said "the bankruptcy issue is a tax oversight which is being dealt with".
Rwanda are bottom of their World Cup qualifying group and are currently 114th in the FIFA world rankings.
