  • Interesting....

After reviewing the just concluded hex stats in Concacaf region, its interesting to note that the 4th placed finisher this cycle (Costa Rica) finished with 16 pts scoring 15 goals while conceding 15.

In the cycle in '97. The boyz finished 3rd with 14 pts and -5 goal diffrential. In '01, USA finished 3rd with 17 pts and Honduras 4th with 14 pts. In '05 hexagonal, Trinidad and Tobago finished 4th with 13 pts and a goal diffrential of -5 enroute to the playoffs for Germany '06.

Now what does that mean? Well I once thought that 14 pts should be enough to earn automatic 3rd spot qualification in Concacaf. That is no more. Our region has gotten more competitive the last 2 cycles and this version in 2009. If 16 pts got Costa Rica 4th spot then how many pts will it take to secure 4th spot in 2013? I dont know but what I do know is we need to step our game up. Central America is getting better and better and now challenging Mexx and USA. If we dont we might as well get used to watching USA/MEXX/HON/CR qualify for the next 3 consecutive WC Finals. The federation needs to start paying attention. How does a nation as unstable and poor as Honduras with an ousted/exiled President qualify for a WC after 28 yrs?

Not sure FIFA will allow that. Australia benefitted from playing Solomon Islands, New Zealand long enough.

If im not mistaken the 4th place Concacaf finisher plays Asian Confederate 5th place next cycle. ( 2013) I think it rotates after that.

Well we are currently without a plan to reach the 2014 feista. We are at STOP...in the silly START-STOP-START-STOP madness we have been engaged in from 1962!

...not CB this time but it is Tappa and his basket at the well!

That's why there should be a plan in place to get the ball rollin. Why wait till 2012 when the first round of qualifiers begin? Thats just too late. One of the biggest reasons Honduras qualified was down to their preparation very early. Another reason is they now have a number of players playing at a high level in Europe. They didnt have as much before. These are some of their players in Europe..Wilson Palacios (Tottenham) Maynor Figueroa, (Wigan) Edgar Alvarez (Bari) Hendry Thomas (Wigan), Carlo Costly (Belchatow, Poland) David Suazo (Inter), Oscar Garcia (Wigan), Osman Chavez (Blackburn) Cesar "Rambo De Leon (Torino).

Palacios, Figueroa and Thomas have been important midfield players for them this cycle. They are also very important players for their clubs in the premiership.

There is no substitute for having quality players in your squad, and players playing at a high level. For those of us who think Jamaica can make it to a world cup by depending on players playing in the DPL are just kidding themselves.
