    Barcelona opened up a three-point lead at the top in Spain after Real Madrid lost, Rangers defeated Old Firm rivals Celtic while there were contrasting fortunes for Milan giants Inter and AC in Italy.
    Bordeaux were beaten as Lyon went top in Ligue 1, Bayern Munich stuttered once more while Steve McClaren's FC Twente went two points clear at the Eredivisie summit.
    Primera Division

    Big-spenders Real Madrid fell to their first defeat of the season as Sevilla triumphed 2-1 with Renato grabbing the decisive goal for the home side. Sevilla now sit level on points with second-placed Real.
    Los Blancos' slip-up allowed Barcelona to open up a three-point lead at the summit as Pedro netted the winning goal against Almeria. Elsewhere, Deportivo kept up their promising start to the season while Villarreal and Xerez both remain winless.

    SPL

    Rangers defeated Old Firm rivals Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday to ensure Walter Smith's side ended a poor run of form and closed to within one point of the leaders. Kenny Miller was the hero for Gers, bagging a brace to slay the Hoops.
    St Johnstone recorded their first win of the season, overcoming fellow strugglers Hamilton 2-0. Hibernian, meanwhile, were denied three points in their clash against Dundee United after Andy Webster cancelled out Merouane Zemmama's opener.

    Serie A

    Inter Milan returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Udinese, Wesley Sneijder on target for Jose Mourinho's side in the 90th minute. But fellow high-flyers Sampdoria were held by Parma while Palermo rocked Juventus 2-0.
    The pressure continues to build on AC Milan boss Leonardo after his side again faltered. Despite Atalanta being reduced to 10 men in the first half, Milan had to rely on a late Ronaldinho strike to salvage a point from the clash. Milan currently lie 12th.

    Ligue 1

    Bordeaux fell to their first defeat of the 2009/10 campaign as the champions were outdone by St Etienne 3-1 at Geoffroy-Guichard. Their dropped points meant Lyon climbed top via a 2-0 success at Lens.
    Marseille suffered back-to-back losses after falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Monaco, Grenoble remain without a single point after they were beaten by Montpellier, who are up to third in the table.

    Bundesliga

    Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg remain level on points at the top of the tree after they recorded wins against struggling duo Nurnberg and Hertha Berlin respectively. Elsewhere, fourth-placed Werder kept up their fine form with a 2-0 win at VfB Stuttgart.
    Bayern Munich, though, dropped yet more points after they failed to break down Cologne at the Allianz Arena. In arguably the game of the weekend in Germany, Hannover 96 managed a 5-2 success over SC Freiburg.

    Eredivisie

    FC Twente made it four consecutive victories as they disposed of Heracles to ensure McClaren's men now sit two points clear at the summit. PSV Eindhoven could only draw in their clash with FC Utrecht at Nieuwe Galgenwaard.
    A brace from Luis Suarez ensured Ajax drew with Roda JC, Feyenoord eased to a 3-0 triumph against RKC, while NAC Breda endured a fourth successive defeat of the campaign against AZ Alkmaar, who ended a poor run of form in the process.

    Best of the rest

    In Belgium, table-toppers Club Brugge recorded a 4-2 triumph over Anderlecht while Standard Liege also won. Elsewhere, Olympiakos were comfortable winners in Greece, Braga and FC Porto both won in Portugal while Swedish leaders AIK could not find a way past third-placed Elfsborg
