Two newcomers in Reggae Boyz training squad

    Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Newcomers Kevin Mighty and Damion Harwood have been invited by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in a 22-man squad to report to a three-day camp starting today.

Just like what one dance can do, Mighty's one goal against Tivoli Gardens wooed a lot of people, including the national selectors.

Mighty, 28, of Humble Lions, has so far scored only one time this season, a peach of a goal that crashed into the roof of the net from just inside the box that Julian McLeish had no clue to.

It was the first of the new season in the third minute and ever since Mighty has been waiting for that call.
Said Mighty: "I feel blessed. I have been working for this so long. I just want to go in and grab it with both hands."

However, the former Seba, Rivoli and Arnett Gardens striker was a bit surprised by his inclusion.
"Kinda because I never know when they are going to call up a squad," he told the Observer after training last night.

Meanwhile, Harwood, 26, of St Georges SC, has been rewarded for his consistent goalscoring form over the last three seasons.
In 2007/08 he notched nine goals and bagged eight last season. So far, he has already tucked away three goals from five games.

Harwood's teammate, goalkeeper Ralston Robinson has also earned a recall to the national set up, which makes it three from the Portland club St Georges.

With the inclusion of Mighty and Harwood, there was no place for Tivoli Gardens' Roland Dean, who was the second top scorer last year with 19 goals and joint top scorer this season with three goals.

Other notable invitees are Seba United's Deshawn Woolery, who made his debut in August against St Kitts and Harbour View central defender Christopher Harvey, who has not represented the national team in over two years.

There was also a recall for the versatile Mario Swaby of Portmore United, who had a bright start in the national colours but was hampered by injuries. His club mate Tyrone Sawyers is also back in the fold, while Boys' Town Peter Keyes retains his place in the squad.

This camp is part of the thrust to rebuild the national programme. There will be two such camps each month.
Squad: Dwayne Miller (Harbour View), Duwayne Kerr (Portmore), Ralston Robinson (St Georges), Dicoy Williams (Harbour View), Jermaine Taylor (St Georges), Chris Harvey (Harbour View), Linval Lewis (Sporting Central), Troy Smith (Village), Bryan Bayliss (Portmore), Richard Edwards (Harbour View), Deshawn Woolery (Seba), Jevaughn Watson (Sporting Central), Mario Swaby (Portmore), Tyrone Sawyers (Portmore), Jerry Walters (Tivoli), Keammar Daley (Tivoli), Damion Harwood (St. Georges), Devon Hodges (Rivoli), Navian Boyd (Tivoli), Lovel Palmer (Harbour View), Peter Keyes (Boys Town), Kevin Mighty (Humble Lions).
