Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reacted to news of the Gunners' record profits with satisfaction, and feels that the net profit of £32.5 million proves that he is doing his job well.

"I am encouraged by the fact that the financial results are good, because on my side I try to contribute to that," he told reporters at his Friday press conference.

"I am quite proud that I work in a company that is in a strong financial situation. I have always worked in clubs which make money and I would not feel that I do my job well if we lost money at the end of the season.

"However, the sporting side is always the most important thing. To be completely happy you have to do well on the sporting side but never, no matter what happens, can it be accepted from any manager that to do that you put your club in trouble."

Wenger also indicated that Chelsea's weekend defeat at Wigan Athletic showed that the Premier League was perhaps more open than usual.

"It shows you it's unpredictable this season and that everybody can beat everybody else," he said.

"It makes the championship interesting because Wigan created a big surprise on Saturday – because we had beaten them quite well the week before.

"I believe you want to reduce the gap between the top teams. We have played six times, four away, and if we win our game in hand, we are in a very strong position."

Meanwhile, the Frenchman also confirmed that neither Nicklas Bendtner nor Denilson would be fit for tomorrow night's Champions League game with Olympiakos, with the Brazilian set for a lenghty spell on the sidelines due to a fracture in his back.

Eduardo, though, will be taking part against the Greeks, while Theo Walcott will be rested.

"Nicklas Bendtner didn’t participate [in training] because he had a car accident on Sunday. Fortunately he did no long-term damage but he was bruised and we thought it was best for him not to train. He should be back for Sunday," Wenger explained.

"Eduardo will be back in the squad for Olympiakos, but Walcott will not. He is available but he's short of competitive action at the moment – he needs a game, and we'll organise one for him. He should be back to normal again from Sunday onwards.
