Flog Turks and Caicos 5-0 in U-20 Qualifier
    Livingston Scott in Rouseau, Dominica
    Thursday, September 24, 2009
ROUSEAU, Dominica - Semone Honeghan netted a brace as Jamaica opened the Group 'A' CFU Under-20 World Cup qualifiers with a 5-0 romp over the Turks and Caicos Islands at Windsor Park Stadium here yesterday.
Honeghan netted in the eighth and 75th minutes, while the Jamaicans got their other goals through Teashian Thomas (17th), Shushana Dobson (60th) and Trudi Carter (62nd).

Jamaica's coach Vin Blaine said the victory was a good start to their campaign. However, he believes they could have done even better.
"It's nothing to sing about because we should dominate a team like this and we did. but we did not perform in the second part of the first half as we wanted. They say that the team was a bit easy and got complacent and that's what we have to guard against when we play," Blaine said.
"We missed some easy chances in front of goal, but credit must go to the Turks and Caicos team because they played nine people behind the ball... but we did well. We created the chances but need to be a little bit more composed in front of goal," he added.
Despite the heavy defeat, technical director of the Turks and Caicos, Matthew Green, was full of praise for his team which was making its international Under-20 debut.

"We're just starting out; we only had a year and a half with the girls, so it's safety first for us, but as we develop and get more confidence we will be more attacking. At the moment we spend most of the game in our half... and for large parts of the game they maintained their discipline and composure and I'm very pleased with that," he said.
The Jamaicans imposed themselves from the opening whistle and had three good opportunities in the opening 10 minutes through strikers Honeghan and Thomas.
However, it was Honeghan who settled the Jamaican nerves when she was left unmarked and headed home from Sashana Campbell's right-sided free kick in the 15th minute.
A minute later, Thomas added her name to the scoresheet after Jamila Campbell-Henny rounded her marker on the right and set her up for an easy finish from six yards.
Turks and Caicos' most outstanding player, goalkeeper Amelie Speer, pulled off a spectacular save five minutes later in response to Campbell's superb half-volley from the top of the area.
Honeghan came close to making it 3-0 on the half-hour, but she directed her effort wide from six yard, after a precise ball from Nugene Nugent out of midfield.
Thomas, who was playing way below her best, wasted another great chance two minutes before the break when she headed tamely to goalkeeper Speer from Campbell's left-sided cross.
The Jamaicans maintained their territorial advantage after the break; however, they were not creating as many clear-cut chances as in the first period. But in the 12th minute, Honeghan threatened with a header and Carter forced Speer to parry a shot wide from 18 yards.
They got the third goal on the hour mark when Speer misjudged a corner and Dobson arrived at the far post to help the ball across the line.
Two minutes later, Carter scored the goal of the match when she curled a precise free kick from the edge of the box past Speer to make it 4-0.
The midfielder then found the net again with another beautiful strike from inside the box five minutes later, but Campbell was called for offside after she kept the play alive when the ball was going out.
Honeghan made it 5-0 and underlined the victory when she converted a cross from Thomas, who dismissed two players down the right before playing to her strike partner.
Lennon High and Reno FC striker Honeghan then wasted a great chance afterwards to get her hat-trick after latching onto a pass inside the box, but she kicked wide of the frame, with only Speer to beat.
Hosts Dominica face Turks and Caicos tomorrow, while the Jamaicans will meet the Dominicans in a much-anticipated match on Sunday.
