MONTEGO BAY, St James- Nineteen clubs owing monies to the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) Western Confederation will not be allowed to play any football in the upcoming season until they have settled their outstanding debts.
The clubs including the last two Western Confederation Super League champions Wadadah and Granville owe a total of $550,200 ranging between $1, 200 at the low end and $55,000 at the high end.
Newly re-elected chairman of the Western Confederation, Linnell McLean told the Observer West this week that discussions had started with the presidents of the respective Football Association in the Confederation to prevent any team that owes money from playing at any level until they have settled their debts.
Among the 19 clubs that owe the Confederation, are seven clubs that will return from last season and also include at least one team that is now defunct- Black Diamonds of St James.
The full list of the teams in arrears includes defending champions Wadadah, beaten finalists Frome FC, Salt Spring, Granville, Mt Salem, Mt Pelier, Sandy Bay, Fogo United, Holland, Duanvale, Central, Orange Hill, Grange Hill, Clarks Town, Seba United, Violet Kickers and Bamboo.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Western Confederation Carol Gentles told the Observer West that letters were being sent to the clubs and to their parish associations informing them of the decision.
She said the confederation was willing to enter into payment agreements with the clubs and work out a plan for payment.
