  • Ryan Babel begs Rafa for Anfield exit

Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has sensationally begged manager Rafael Benitez to let him leave the Merseyside club.
The Dutch star has stunned Liverpool by demanding a loan move to Ajax unless he is granted more playing time at the club.
In a recent interview, Babel accused the club of making broken promises, and has insisted he will leave Merseyside if he is resigned to the bench again this season.
"A lot of things have been promised to me, but haven't been fulfilled," the 22-year-old said.
"They told me I would get mote playing time and opportunities. But after the first defeat it was only me who was victimised, who lost his place."
After a poor performance in the Reds Premier League opening defeat away to Tottenham, Babel made little impact as a sub in the clubs home defeat to Aston Villa and was not included on the bench during the sides most recent win against Bolton.
Now Babel - who has scored just seven times in 59 league appearances since signing from Ajax for 11.5 million in 2007 - fears he may miss out on a place in Holland's World Cup squad unless he gets a chance to prove himself.

"I think half a season at Ajax with a view to the World Cup wouldn't be a bad idea.
"Loaning me out was not an option ( this summer). Now we have agreed to review the situation in January."
But Reds boss Benitez has called on Babel to start showing Liverpool what he is made of, with the Spaniard telling reporters:
"Ryan has something to give us this time and he knows it.
"He will have opportunities to prove himself with so many games coming up, but it is important he has the right mentality."

Babel is a very good player. He has been given the same raw deal last season with limited play time.

Just can't blame him for expressing himself.

He has the ability to be a starter on most EPL team.

(I wonder if 'Pool want to trade Babel for Bendtner???)

Thats why mi cant rate Rafa, you can tell him just buy players for buy sake.As a manager when you go out and spend so much money on a player you have to believe in that player's ability this happen too often with Rafa's signings.

Dunny - I think that if you look at the total picture, Rafa comes out ahead more often than not. Alonso, Riera and Torres alone make up for a lot of the duds. And as I have told Jangle before, you can't look at one side of the picture only, you have to look at the whole deal.

Now, on Babel, I personally think he has had a negative impact on the youth's career. He has played him too often on the left wing even though he is a natural right footer. The result is that he drifts into the middle automatically, leaving less space for himself and eliminating any chance of a cross into the box. I can't help but think that if Kuyt had any semblance of a left foot, that Babel would be on the right and Kuyt on the left. But no such luck. Still, in fairness to Rafa, Babel has had his chances to cement a starting spot but has failed to take advantage.

Torres was already top draw before he came to Liverpool,Alonso was a class apart from any midfielder (with the exception of Gerrard) that was at the club and i'm not sure about Riera. In my opinion he played well last season but he seem to be out of favour this season and i find that strange.A manager's got to believe in the players that they buy and Rafa dont seem to do it often enough.

Dunny - from last year's starting 11, only Gerrard and Carra were at the club before Rafa got there. That includes Xabi. Now consider the *value* of his signings relative to what they were before he signed them: Reina, Torres, Kuyt, Skrtel, Benayoun, Riera have all had their value increase under him.

Benayoun and Riera for sure, Kuyt is older now, so his value is probably diminishing; the point is the same though, you have to look at the whole squad, not just the failures.

I'm looking at your squad and thinkng the depth in the squad should be better after having the same manager for 5 years.Dont get me wrong Rafa's done ok,but i just believe he should've done better. If for instance you lost Torres and Stevie G for 5 months of the season how would you cope?

I don't think Benayoun value has really increased and Liverpool could get a lot more outa this youth. Too much bench fi him.

Sass, in this day and age of Real Madrid madness, everyone's value has gone up. Even if that were not the case, I guarantee Rafa would get more for Yossi than the 5M pounds he paid for him 2 years ago, probably closer to 7-8M.

We lost them for most of the games in last season! In fact, we beat manure at Anfield with both of them starting on the bench. Where we really are hurting is in the position that Xabi vacated; he was hugely impactful to the team. The problem with depth is directly related to lack of funds. Very simple. In fact, the truth of the matter is that the team has "punched above its weight" for two seasons now. Had we had Spurs transfer budget, we'd be on easy street.

Everybody value gone up but many teams close their books because of Real and Man City. Them cause more teams fi look within.

Benayoun still I think is a good youth and I hope he gets more starts for pool this season. Unlike many other players he has waited his turn.
