  • Portsmouth in the mire-A long time Arsene a warn dem.

Do not spend more than you can afford;- David James concedes Portsmouth's players fear the club could go into administration if Sulaiman Al Fahim's proposed takeover collapses.
Question marks continue to linger over Al Fahim's takeover with reports hinting the next 24 hours could be crucial after he failed to secure an extension to seal the finances to acquire the club.
Pompey have already sold two of their prized assets in England internationals Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson in order to service debts during the summer transfer window.
There are fears more players could be sold before the window closes and James admits he is shocked and surprised to hear the word 'administration' in and around the walls of Fratton Park.
James is at a loss to establish how the club has raked in around £80million in transfer fees in recent years and can still find themselves in a perious financial position.
    Administration

"Hearing that dreaded word - administration - attached to a Premier League club, albeit speculatively, is unprecedented in this division," he told The Observer.
"Hearing it in association with your own club is much worse."
He added: "This league is supposed to be bulletproof. But over the summer months, as we began to sell our players, those left in the dressing room couldn't help looking round and wondering, 'Who's next?'
"You can't help but start wondering whose fault this is. Why is it happening?
"That's a difficult question to answer when the club has accumulated almost £80m in transfers in the last calendar year - so where has all that income gone?
"You look at your own wages and you naturally worry about the rest of the staff at the club. To think that perhaps one of them might lose their job because of the situation, you ask yourself, 'It is because of what I'm earning?'"

Sulaiman Al-Fahim has told Sky Sports News that his Portsmouth takeover remains on track.
There have been fears that the takeover may be in danger of collapsing after Al-Fahim failed to complete the deal before current owner Alexandre Gaydamak's deadline, with some suggesting the club may have to be put into administration.
However, Al-Fahim attended the opening day defeat to Fulham at Fratton Park at the weekend and his spokesman, Ivo Ilic Gabara, insists there is no cause for concern.
"The deal is on track and has never been in doubt," he told Sky Sports News' chief news reporter, Bryan Swanson.
"All parties are doing their best to reach a positive conclusion and help bring success to the club in the Premier League.
"We cannot yet give a date on when the deal will be concluded, but Sulaiman Al-Fahim is looking forward to attending Portsmouth's next two away games before their home game against Manchester City at the end of the month."
    Focus

Meanwhile, Pompey midfielder Aaron Mokoena insists the players are not allowing themselves to be distracted by the uncertainty off the field.
"It is going to be difficult this season, but we are ready," he told The News.
"There has been a lot of speculation off the field, but as players we try not to let what is happening affect us at all.
"It is difficult to deal with, but I have no regrets coming here.
"We know we have to do the business on the field. That is our job.
"Obviously the club want the opportunity to get this matter off the field sorted as quickly as possible.
"We never even talk about it. The manager never even touches on it, which is really good.
"We know what we are here for and keeping it quiet among the players helps as well."
