I donot think he has, I think he is a resident. But that would not be too difficult to fix. We have seen the USA hurry up these things in the past so players could be available to the national team. I do not see why Canada cannot.

it is no secret that Canada wants White. It would be quick for him to get Canadian citizenship if he doesn't have one as he has been living there more than 5 years.

Obrien White sees himself as a Jamaican player so unless the JFF screw it up bad he will be wearing our colours.

That happened with David Regis because his wife had special privileges as an employee of the State Department.

But more often that not the long wait that is necessary for U.S. citizenship (under normal circumstances) usually sees that we miss out on players in those situations. See Bakary Soumare of the Chicago Fire for a good example.

the wait in Canada is not as long as the one in the US and if the US coach really want to push it they can speed up the process.

All the Soccer Federation have to do is make a direct call to the state department and it can happen.

Yeah, the State Department bows down to U.S. Soccer.

                you have no freaking idea.

I have seen cases where player visa have been turned down and the president of a college make one call to the embassy in a country and the next week the kid was on the plane.

You simply have to try to put a wrench in anything good Jamaican. Go and watch the World Championship for a minute.

You know bout Canadian immigration right?

C'mon now, Asinine. A student visa is a whole other ball of wax and you know it. We're talking about citizenship here.

And how was I "putting a wrench on anything good Jamaican" by showing my doubt that White actually had Canadian citizenship?

According to Wikipedia he moved to Canada in 2002, but then from 2005 to 2008 he attended the University of Connecticut. I doubt those 3 years in the USA would count towards his Canadian citizenship, but some of you guys would know about that better than I would. At any rate, now that he's back living in Canada again he can't be too far away from it.

I seem to remember a German guy who had some American background (maybe he was born on one of those US military bases over there...or at least visited one) whose citzenship was accelerated for him to make a US World Cup squad.

I also seem to recall that this friendly intervention did not prevent an enthralling last place WC performance by said US team.

But I could be wrong on the details...an mi google button nah werk.

From what I hear he has his citizenship and been in school in UCONN doesn't stop him from getting his citizenship so maybe you want to educate yourself.

The fact is State department workers get no preference. They know the system and use it . Others use it and there are ways of elevating special cases in any system. Another thing you have to understand is the US immigration system is unique as in Canada and Britain the wait is not this long and drawn out especially if you come from the commonwealth.

Thomas Dooley never had his citizenship "accelerated"; he was born with it, by virtue of an American father.

He also played in the 2nd round of a World Cup -- something that no Jamaican player has ever done.

                        Don't that make ya bittah?

I already stated that there are sure to be others here who know more than I do more about the Canadian citizenship process. But I have to say that I find it surprising that his years in the USA for college would count towards the total number of years required.

                          You are wrong. Read here:

David Regis, a native of France, recently became a U.S. citizen, so he could play for the U.S. World Cup soccer team. His citizenship application was expedited under a provision of the Immigration and Naturalization Act benefiting individual's with a US citizen spouse living abroad and employed by the U.S. Government, an American research institution or and American corporation that promotes foreign trade and commerce. Regis's wife met the criteria. Because the normal waiting period for a citizenship application can take years and INS is currently backlogged with millions of applications, some criticized Regis' ability to bypass the lines.
Seems you need to educate yourself.
