Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stressed there is 'no chance' of the club selling captain Cesc Fabregas.
The Spain international has again been linked with a return to Barcelona, with reports claiming a deal could be done before the transfer window closes.
But Wenger has rejected the speculation, instead directing attention to the new season and backing his current crop of players to secure the club's first piece of silverware since 2005.
Wenger said: "Do you really think we sell now our players one day before the championship starts, players who are basic players of the team? There is no chance.
"You cannot stop people from having a lot of creative imagination during their sleepless nights, but that does not mean we will do it."
"I believe that in life you are committed to clubs with contracts and in no contract is the colour of your blood described.
"I am more committed than ever to my club, not only this season, but since I have arrived here.
"We are the beginning of a new season now, and it is important that everybody focuses - me, Fabregas everybody else, just on being successful for the club we love, and the best way we can do that is to do well."
He continued: "The ambition is to finish as high as possible. What is as high as possible is to finish first, it is as simple as that.
"The competition is of a high level and many aspire to that, so let's continue to play the game the way we want to play it and I believe we can show that we have made big steps forward."
Wenger also hinted that he could still delve into the transfer market, although he insisted he is in no rush to make a second signing of the summer, having already brought in Thomas Vermaelen.
He said: "I have all the players in place. If we need to add one or two more, the transfer period is open until 31st August.
"Ideally you want not to move any more, but you always have to adjust. If there is a need there, we will do it.
"The market now is a world market, so you can always find good players.
"There are only a few players who have a price which we cannot reach - maybe 10 in the world, but for the rest, we have access to the market."

the market is only so open to him because he buys talent and not the overpriced players.

Well...I think we were a special case. The problem that Liverpool had before Rafa was in Parry and Moores. I will forever blame the current situation on the two of them. Houlier as not a bad manager but he made some crazy signings in retrospect. At the time, they seemed to make sense. Still, Parry was a real twit.

Not really a special case. Coaches make the difference in many cases.
Look at Villa, Bolton, Manu, Portmouth(last year) and you will seee that a good coach is not overrated.

i think good coch with solid principles although I dont always agree with Wegner I respect his principles.. 'Quite simply the man say I am not paying ridiculous sums for players i will devlelop them nor will I develop a player and buy a player to put in front of him to sifle him. I respect that althouigh I think we need a prolific striker.. it could be Martins for all I care but I dont trust who we have

My problem is too many of these high price players are overpriced and I understand Wenger because maybe 1 out 5 buy for 25 million and more is worth it, especially this year. There is not many players out there available who is better than who he has.

edouardo, arshavin and van persie that is a good strike force...the steel in the midfield is what concerns me....

In my opinion he needs that steel in the middle and another good defender. The youth from Fulham not too expensive but I don't know where he si going to get one or two tuff midfielder from.

Wenger seems to think he can get away without a tuff mid, so we will seee.

Wenger thinks the technical skill...superior technical skills...will hae you playing yourself out of trouble. Frankly he has proven himself right on many, many occasions.

Even in this 6-1 win at times our midfielders were simply 'shouldered' or bundled off of the ball. The weakest midfield man appears to be Dennilson.

....also I hated how often Arshevin gave away the ball. He was Everton's best player after Louis Sasha.

We dont need to buy any players,Song can be as good as any holding midfielder in the prem.

Right now if you have one of your center back down you don't have a good cover because I don't really rate Silvestre.
