JAMAICA'S Under-20 Women's team slammed their Trinidad & Tobago counterparts 4-1 at the UWI Bowl yesterday in the first of three friendlies matches in preparation for their CFU World Cup Qualifiers later this year.
Tasheka Gordon scored in the 11th and 30th minutes after Semone Honeyghan had sent the Jamaicans ahead in the sixth minute.
Teashian Thomas finished off Trinidad & Tobago in the 52nd minute, though Mariah Shade pulled back for one for the visitors in the 38th minute.
In a game of unlimited substutions, Jamaica's coach Vin Blaine was pleased with the solid start.
"We started off well in our first game as a unit. We performed well in the first half as we got three goals, which is anything a coach can ask for. We didn't know the Trinidad team, so we didn't know what to expect. Our girls responded well, but there are lot of things we have to improve on, which will take some time," Blaine noted.
T&T's coach Jamal Shabazz said after the match that his girls had early 'stage fright' and the team suffered from goalkeeping errors.
"However, we came into the game in the second half and we're looking to Friday (tomorrow)," he noted with reference to the second match which will take place at Brancourt, Clarendon, starting at 3:00 pm.
Honeyghan slotted in the first goal on the run of play while Gordon benefited from T&T's Kimika Forbes' goalkeeping error. Gordon nodded home her second goal before Shade scored eight minutes later for the first half to end 3-1.
T&T got into their own in the second period, but the damage was already done, while both coaches utilised the many substitutions offered in a development friendly match of this nature.
