    22.11.06 - Canada and USA progressed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 after posting victories over Jamaica and Mexico, respectively, in the semifinals of the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup™ at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California USA on Wednesday evening.

    Canada took a 1:0 lead five minutes before halftime with a goal by Christine Sinclair against Jamaica, who conceded their first goal in CONCACAF qualification last their last 614 minutes placed.

    Rhian Wilkinson and Sinclair added in the second half for the maple leafs in 51st and 71st minutes, respectively, while Melanie Booth closed out the scoring with two minutes remaining for the 4:0 final.

    In the other CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup™ semifinal, two goals by Abby Wambach in the 10th and 64th minutes, respectively, led the USA to a 2:0 win over Mexico.

    The victory extends the stars &amp; stripes unbeaten streak to 23 games during all CONCACAF Women’s Tournaments.

    This is the first time since 1934, that a USA team qualifies to a FIFA World Cup (men or women) by just playing one game.

    The victories by Canada and USA also secured their berths to the women’s tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.

    The 2006 Women’s Gold Cup concludes on 26 November in Carson when Mexico takes on Jamaica in the third-place match and earn a playoff qualifying series against Japan, while Canada faces the USA in the CONCACAF Final.

    The finals of the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup™ will be televised in the USA live on Fox Soccer Channel and in Canada on Rogers Sports Network.

    We are still in with a chance I am keeping my fingers crossed because we will get Venicia Reid back and our other starters that were playing for Lindsey Wilson college will be fully rested and ready to go by sunday. The Mexican scouting report of Jamaica will be no good to them on Sunday with all these influential players coming back into our team...
