  • Number One focus for our training staff

Somehow they have to find someone who can take a 30 yard free kick at goal and corners.

In our gold cup we have gotten too many corners and free kick and most ended up not even going to the goal or us wining. In our last game we got more than 10 corners and good team would have certainly scored at least one.

We know with speedy strikers like Shelton, Fuller and Cummings we are going to get free kicks right outside the box and we can't continue to waste them.

We can talk bout the play on the field but teams like the US, and Mexico regardless how they play they will rescue their games with these spot kicks.

We can't ignore that part of the game and expect to win.

Sass, add to that someone who can strike the ball from anywhere outside the 18 yard box. If we look at the USA side, time and time again we see them winning games from shots outside this area. If we go back to when they denied T&T a trip to the World Cup in the early 90s with that kick from Paul Callijuri (sp) to people like Tab Ramos, Preki to more recent like this Gold Cup Beckerman. We need to encourage players to do things like these. I thought Austin had this in his arsenal, but I have not seen him demonstrate it in this Gold Cup.

I agree with your other points too. Gardner is a wasste wehn it comes to free kicks and corners. For the life of me, I could not understand if he was so ineffective, why didn't he give someone else a chance or Tappa suggest someone else take the kicks.

The only reason Gardner was taking the kicks is because they didn't practise. If you practise and someone take two bad free kick then you know the second best taker try it or you try a short pass, or something practised.

When I played in College every corner kick had a number and everybody know where they were suppose to be on that number but I never did this in Ja and I doubt the national team even do simple basic stuff like that.

Yes we need someone who can strike the ball from 30 yards out in order to open up the defense of the opposition.

We really have to work hard on this

Austin can do it, but he did not in the match against Canada and never attempted for the 35 minutes he played against Cossta Rica. The litte midfielder Phillips can strike it too, but he too is not doing it.

Maybe the reason Austin didn't do it could be he was played too deep.
