Press Release
SETANTA SPORTS CONTINUES BROADCAST IN THE CARIBBEAN
Kingston, Jamaica: June 24, 2009
IMC, and its subsidiary SportsMax Limited, is aware that there are concerns existing in the media regarding the developments surrounding Setanta Sports that have been in the news over the last couple of weeks. Setanta Sports, which originates from Ireland, has operations in the UK, the republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, North America, the Caribbean and Australia. As has been reported, the Setanta Sports UK division lost the UK rights for the Barclays Premier League and has gone into administration. While the UK Division has ceased its operations, Setanta Sports in North America and the Caribbean will continue to operate and broadcast the same content that it has broadcast.
In summary, The English FA Premier League awarded ESPN two exclusive live media packages for the 2009/2010 Barclays Premier League season, and one package from August 2010 for the following three seasons for broadcast in the United Kingdom. The rights acquired by ESPN are the Barclays Premier League matches that Setanta had previously acquired and have lost related to broadcast in the United Kingdom only and is not related to its broadcast of the Barclays Premier League in North America or the Caribbean.
As the distribution rights owner of Setanta Sports North America in the Caribbean, SportsMax has discussed this matter with Setanta Sports North America and we have been assured by them that the operation and content of the Setanta Sports Channel in North America are not directly affected by Setanta Sports in the UK going into administration in the UK nor by the acquisition by ESPN of certain UK rights only for the broadcast of Barclays Premier League, as the North American operations are separate from that of the UK operations.
SportsMax will continue to communicate with our cable operator partners, our valuable subscribers and the media in providing any updates that we receive from Setanta Sports North America.
